Chareyre proposed the following answer:
Why don't you just save the simulation, anyway?
Saving positions is never a very good thing, since contacts are lost.

Question #198183 on Yade changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/198183

Chareyre proposed the following answer:
Before there is something to import clumps, you can use any format since
YOU (not a Yade function) will open the file and construct clumps with
the data.

E.g.:

id1 x y z rad
id2 x y z rad
id3 x y z rad
clumps
clumpId1 ii ij ik
clumpId2 ii ij ik
...

Thanks Bruno,

Why don't you just save the simulation, anyway?

Since YADE cannot generate a 2D clumps packing, I thought to find
another software to generate and write a file YADE can read.

Maybe I can find some way to write and read clumps. As now I encountered
some other problems in 2d simulation, I will try to figure them out one
by one :)

If you are interested in an external packing library have a look at ESys-
Particle's GenGeo (https://launchpad.net/esys-particle/gengeo). You can direct
import it into yade. It makes nice 2D packings. However, not sure about
clumps.

Jerome, I don't get your point, sorry. The fact that the class is called
Sphere doesn't mean it can't represent a disk. It is always position and
radius. If you want it to be a disk, then it is a disk.
A limitation is that Yade does not modelize disks in three dimensions (contact
between the edge of disk A and the surface of disk B is not handled), but in 2D
there is no problem.

Yes... I was maybe a little too terre à terre (down to earth ?)

impossible. Thanks for the details

[Yade-users] [Question #198294]: Help for porosity, apply pressure, erase, get stress

2012-05-24 Thread liucheng83
New question #198294 on Yade:
https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/198294

Hi,
I 'm writing a code to create packing, I have some confuse, long for somebody
can help to solve.
1, case one:a deep cavation of drill, how can I model the soil layer with the
desired stress and porosity? whether I must use the real radius of clay ,such
as 0.075mm or littler, and if I didnot use the real radius, how to give the E,v
,c, fri,density and so on?
2, what is the best way to get stress or prosity in some local volume, does
predicates can do it? And how to do, is there an example?
3, when I use
Ip2_CohFrictMat_CohFrictMat_CohFrictPhys(setCohesionNow=True,setCohesionOnNewContacts=1),
I have a question, whether I can use the
'setCohesionNow=false,setCohesionOnNewContacts=1' when packing with gravity and
apply pressure on top of soil layer, and changes it to
'setCohesionNow=true,setCohesionOnNewContacts=0' later, is it possible to do
that?
4, how to apply constant pressure on top of soil layer, and then delete some
particle in a cylinder volume like drilling, can somebody give me some example,
I cannot get through the documentation, whether ForceEngine() or erase() can do
that, thank you!

The scope of your questions is so large that you may discourage people from
trying to answer (I'm not trying to discourage anybody).

For 3), yes you can change the cohesion flags after some iterations.

not existing.
Please, see an answer 197661 [1]. It is something similiar.
