Re: [Zim-wiki] Shorten the link text automatically

2016-12-17 Thread Daniel Hofer
Hi

thanks for the detailed information!
Mhm, my workflow is not the same but I really like to be persuaded for another
workflow.

My problem is: I have thousends of nested pages. So I can’t remember in advance
the name of the cards.
That’s the reason why I press Ctrl+L first (without selecting text before).
After entering a search phrase I get a list of all search results.
With the help of this list in the link dialog I can remember the searched page.
This ist perfect this way for me.

Typing the text and selecting it (shift+arrow keys) and invoking Ctrl+L brings
up the insert link window. The field selected automatically is the link to
field itself. This also has the benefit of confirming that the destination
exists.
Additionally, It is not always necessary to indicate the full hierarchy of the
destination - Zim automatically finds the reference so long as the reference
rests in the same page-sub-page hierarchy.
Am I missing something here?

Thanks.
Yes that’s a possibility and I know it.
But an automatically shortened linktext would save a lot of time, because
In 99% of all cases I only need the pagetitle as linktext.

Hello Daniel!

Could you try overwrite the linktext in the Paste Link window? What's wrong
with that?

Hello

Ctrl & l for inserting a link is great !
But is there a possibility to shorten the linktext ?

An Example :
The link is :
Book :BA :Harry Potter :Page 34

The link text appears the same way. What I’d like to have:
Only the last part, so I mean the page name «Page 34» should appear in the link
text.

Does anybody have an idea how to «fix» this?

Thanks a lot!

Daniel

Re: [Zim-wiki] zim future?

2016-12-17 Thread mario bezzi

Hi Jaap,

the path you identified for the project makes sense to me. I just wish
there was a small team helping you on core restructuring. It would be of
great help.

Thank you for your kind and open reply.

Hi Mario, all,

Yes, I think you are right that zim is mostly driven as a one-man
project. However there are multiple contributors who contribute patches
and plugins (quite a lot actually over time but few at the same time).

Therefore for the last years my focus is on making the core code more
robust and push new features to plugins. I hope this will encourage
others to build upon that. Afraid any deadlines I posted for myself on
this have come and gone again - a lot of other stuff happened in my life
over the last few years.

As for this mailing list, I am reading it quite often, but I try to
restrain myself from commenting too often to allow others to join in
instead :)

Only using zim since 3-4 years, so I can't speak for the past, but for

If I am not wrong Jaap's last post on this list goes back to Oct 29.
This is free, open source software, so no complaint, and I know very
well that life imposes priorities.

I just wonder how much current development model depends on a single
person to keep things going..

Is there anything Python semi-illiterates can do to help?

Thank you,
