One possible approach (unfortunately no code) -- (X)Emacs can speak
SSL (uses it, at least, for imap communication :-), so if Zope's ftp
server could be SSL wrapped...?

A related question -- is there any way to get Zope to listen to scp
(ssh's copy)?

(I'm interested in exactly the same thing, sigh...).

There never is a reason to not consider Emacs. Note that there is a
new package for editing XML, called XAE (XML authoring environment)
which takes care of XSLT jobs for you. Developed by the same guy,
Paul Kinnucan, who does the marvelous JDE package for editing Java in
Emacs. Now if only he'd do a zope package ;-).

Note that XEmacs is not fixated with X11 (anymore). There do exist
versions for NT, and it will run in a terminal window...

What version of EFS are you using, and if not recent, have you
considered upgrading the EFS package?

The ugly solution, until you find a clean one, is to have a second
apache process :-), and the first proxy-forwards to either Zope or the
second Apache. (I'm doing something like that for our home server, so
I'm intrigued as to whether you can provide a clean solution...).

TC> Yes, you can. BUT, you must make the source code available.

And before we get too far --

Source code available to the recipient means just that. They (the
recipient) have it available to them. That doesn't necessarily mean
that you ship it, but that it is available to them. And that
definitely doesn't mean "available to the world".

Though, this whole argument is sort of silly, given that we are
talking about extensions to an "open source platform" to begin with,
so that sales based on services make more sense than shrinkwarp'd
(sic) EULA-code..

[Zope] Testing out new versions of XXX (in this case, WorldPilot)

2000-09-10 Thread A.J. Rossini

What is the best way to test out new versions of Products without
breaking an existing setup? Should I simply "version" the current
working version, then install new stuff to test, etc, or is there any
easy way to have products "ORIGINAL" and "ORIGINAL-2" (which is what
I'd prefer, for stability comparisons)

(in this case, I'm curious about the palm-syncing features of WP
1.1alpha for our home server, but can't afford to break our current
WWW-based email access...?)

Or should I just copy Data.fs and manually revert in case of accident?

Advice appreciated!

-tony
