[Zope] Zope tutorial / help VHM problem
Hi, I'm new to zope, and am having a problem with the tutorial behind Apache2 using VHM. I've got a zope 2.7 testing site up running behind Apache/2.0.54 using a virtual folder (/zope/) and rewrite to localhost, and using VHM. This is all running on Debian Linux 3.1. Everything works OK, even switching to https for manage etc, except the tutorial doesn't work. The tutorial seems to use absolute paths for objects (e.g. HelpSys) which VHM isn't translating, and so the pages fail to load and work properly. I've opened an additional port through the firewall and set the instance to listen on that port, and the tutorial works properly delivered directly. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it just me? Do I have something set up wrong? If there's a workaround then I'd be happy to hear it. If not, should I log this as a bug? I loaded the ZopeTutorial using add object to folder. Nothing changed. No access control added. Re: [Zope] Zope restarting itself?
Have a look at: http://www.lightwerk.com//zope/monitoring Hi listies, maybe someone of you heard of a feature that Zope can restart itself when it dies abnormally. (Linux/Unix version). I found such a service for Windows NT, but not for Linux, although I am sure that I saw it a while ago somewhere... Is this just a parameter for z2.py or is there a special program for this task?

Hi, we have had a similar problem with ODBC adapter under Zope 2.2.0 and we couldn't fix it. But under 2.2.2 we didn't have that problem again. Arno [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Martijn, and Zope Fans, I'm using ZFormulator and having problems with permissions on Zope v.2. Re: [Zope] MySQL and Zope struggles
I don't know if the following link can solve your problem, but maybe it gives you an idea: http://www.zope.org/Members/Roug/new_record_with_subrecords (How-To: Creating a new record with subrecords in MySQL) Arno I'm struggling to migrate an application from Zope/PostgreSQL to Zope MySQL (Why ? - because I've got a kind offer of free hosting if I use MySQL). MySQL offers a limited set of features and is missing, among other things, the ability to use subqueries - so for example in PostgreSQL you can say update note set notes =dtml-sqlvar notes type=string where note_id = (select note_id from artist where dtml-sqltest artist_id type=int) and in MySQL you can't. If you were working in a traditional programming environment you could overcome this by splitting the above into two parts - a select to retrieve the value of note_id from the artist table followed by an update of the note table using the returned value of note-id. For example select note-id into note-id-var from artist where artist-id = 23; update note set notes = 'asdasda' where note-id = note-id-var; The problem is that in Zope I believe you can't use a returned value within an SQL Method, so the above code would fail. The only way I can see to do the above is to have two separate SQL Methods, one for the select, returning the note-id-var and another for the update. This is very clumsy. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there was a better way. [Zope-dev] Workflow, Python and Zope
Here I just repost a statement from Michael ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) concerning his workflow product (http://www.vivtek.com/wftk.html, Open-source workflow toolkit). Maybe it's useful for some further developments. Best regards Arno Gross, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Re: Workflow, Python and Zope Posted By: Michael [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Tuesday, 19 September 2000, at 10:08 p.m. In Response To: Workflow, Python and Zope (Arno Gross) As Josh already mentioned there is Zope and Python. Currently there is a discussion thread in the Zope mailing list (http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev) and in egroups: http://www.egroups.com/messagesearch/zope?query=Workflow, discussing Generic Workflow. I am convinced that it would be a great shift to build a Workflow product on Zope with Python. There is already a small basis of a workflow, but maybe we could pull together the resources. Arno Gross [EMAIL PROTECTED] Actually, I'm currently learning Python. As Python is typically extended with plain-vanilla C modules, and as the new and improved wftk (which hasn't hit stores yet) is reimplemented as a set of libraries, I think that it's going to be really simple to drop the engine into Python and Zope. That'll be my next trick.

Hello, is someone working on german version of zzLocale? We would like to join. Currently there is a static translation of the whole interface with zzLocale. So it's difficult to change. [Zope] Generic workflow
As I saw during the last days there is a big interest for generic workflow. There is an open source project called wftk: Open-source workflow toolkit (http://www.vivtek.com/wftk). Currently it's Tcl/C based with XML as description language. Maybe we could pull together our resources and finish it on a Zope/Python platform. I already contact the developer and waiting for a response. Arno Gross email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It is not meant to be the "icon" property of the class, just an image to be included in DTML. I included it in my class as follows: chooser = ImageFile('images/chooser.gif',globals()), but when I call it in DTML (dtml-var chooser) I get the following: ImageFile instance at 014F1D90 I thought maybe I could use an instance of the Image class: chooser = OFS.Image('images/chooser.gif',globals()), but this doesn't seem to work. How do you create an instance of an Image in a Python Product? ImageFile objects do not (like ZODB stored Image objects) generate an IMG tag when called. Image object, when called, generate an IMG tag that points the browser to the correct address to retrieve tha actual image. With an ImageFile object, you need to construct the tag yourself. If this class has an instance foo, with this ImageFile attribute chooser, and the instance foo is stored in the root of your Zope ZODB, you need to point the browser to http://yoursever/foo/chooser. So your DTML needs to generate the following HTML: img src="http://yoursever/foo/chooser" I don't know enough about your DTML, but if it is another attribute of the same class, you could use one of the URLx REQUEST variables or something to construct the URL for the image. Also, absolute_url() called on the foo instance may also work for a base URL. Hope this helps. Okay, I've done the following: # Create the method in the .py Class File chooserIcon=ImageFile('images/chooserIcon.gif',globals()), # Call from the .dtml File img src="dtml-var absolute_url/chooserIcon" border=0 absolute_url() works and the URL points correctly to http://myserver/foo/chooserIcon, but if I type in that URL directly, I get a "Not Found" error as though the method does not exist. I've double-checked that the image is there and named correctly, so it's not a syntax thing. Perhaps I need to convert it to an "Image" object something like below? # this doesn't work but illustrates the idea chooserIcon = Image( ImageFile('images/chooserIcon.gif',globals() ) Help! =:) Hmm.. This is how Product Icons are stored, that is, as ImageFile objects. At product init time, a ImageFile objetcs is created for the Product icon and stroed in the special misc_ structure for later access. Have a look through the Product initialisation code, which is started up in OFS/Application.py::install_products(). -- Martijn Pieters | Software Engineermailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] | Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com/ | Creators of Zope http://www.zope.org/ | ZopeStudio: http://www.zope.org/Products/ZopeStudio - --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Mon, 07 Aug 2000 18:23:15 +0200 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: Tom Deprez [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Zope] Previous Message Hi all, Please, forget my previous message! What if I want to create a DTML method or DTML template? If not that, is there an easy way to change the type of a group of objects? Thanks. -P -- Technology Concepts Design, Inc. From: Craig [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unfortunately I do not know enough about Zope yet to know what the best approach is to solving my problem, so please let me know if you have any suggestions or have done something similar before. I am trying to build a "tips" site and am trying to decide on how to store the tips. The options I can think of are database, XML documents (stored within Zope), or my own custom Zope object type or product. I've read a little about XML documents in Zope, but I know nothing about creating my own object types or products. Can anyone give me some advantages (and disadvantages) of the latter approach? Perhaps there is already a product for something similar. Squishdot is slight overkill for what I'm looking for, although I would eventually like to attach discussion threads to each tip, so maybe it is not. This is the information that would need to be stored for each tip (hypothetically) : Tip title Abstract Tip text Author (email, etc...) Date submitted Date approved (if we allow users to submit tips) Number of hits (so we can have a "10 most popular", etc...) Image link ...and more may be added as time goes on. Any thoughts? As far as I can tell from a quick scan of the source, the precondition is an object that is called just before the file object is rendered. It can raise an exception, in which case the object will not get rendered. I could swear I read that documented somewhere, but I can't find it. Someone should submit a doc patch for the API help pane. I'd do it, but I haven't gotten around to learning how the help system works yet so I don't know what file to patch grin. Precondition Allows you to specify a precondition for the File. A precondition is a method or document which is executed before the File is viewed or downloaded. If the precondition raises an exception then the File cannot be viewed.
