Not yet. I think that O'Reilly doesn't want us to produce any more
public versions of the book until it is published. I'm double checking
with them right now. Take a look at the copyright verbage on each book
page to see what I'm talking about.

As soon as the book is published it will go under an open content
license and we'll make PDF, and probably other formats available. At
that time you'll also be able to convert the book to whatever formats
you want and redistribute it as you wish.

Thanks for your patience.

I believe that O'Reilly doesn't want the book redistributed before it is
printed. I'll recheck with them. Take a look at the copyright stuff info
on each page.

Luckily the book will soon be under an open content license, and then
you'll be free to do what ever you wish.

Thanks for taking a look at the book!

[Zope] RE: Zope Tutorial

2000-07-27 Thread Amos Latteier

Here's what to do:

  * Get Zope 2.2, download it, install it.
  * Log in to Zope with the super user account.
  * Create a manager account by going to the User Folder and adding a new
user, and giving them the Manager role.
  * Quit your browser to log out.
  * Log into Zope as the manager you just created.
  * Create a Zope Tutorial, by adding it from the product add list.
  * Now do the tutorial.

Good luck!

[Zope] ANN: Forthcoming Zope Book

2000-07-06 Thread Amos Latteier

Hi,

We all know that Zope needs better docs. To this end we've added a help
system, API docs and a tutorial to Zope 2.2.

Now the important work of replacing the aging guides is job number one.

Michel Pelletier has been diligently working on a Zope book for O'Reilly
for a number of months. I convinced him to take me on as a co-author and
turn the book into official Zope documentation. O'Reilly is on board and
is currently choosing between two different open content licenses. Find
out the full scoop on the Zope Docs Wiki.

  http://www.zope.org/Wikis/Docs/ZopeBook

We're excited about the book and think that it will fill an important
hole the current official Zope docs.

As soon as a content license is chosen we'll make our rough drafts
available.

Thanks for the bug report. I can easily fix the "order" issue, but I am
so far unable to reproduce the JavaScript error.

Can you give me more information about your platform, the error message
and what steps you took to achieve the error? If you do things
differently (like create an instance of the tutorial with the product
add list) does the tutorial work?

Thanks!

I know that Zope's documentation is frustrating. However, I generally
find searches on Zope.org to be helpful. I've forwarded your concerns to
the Zope.org webmaster.

I'd like to share some what Michel Pelletier and I have been doing to
improve Zope documentation.

  * We conducted a poll to help us determine what was most needed. We
found out that Zope docs are of middling quality and folks most want new
user help.

  * We wrote an online help system for Zope and wrote help content for
all management screens. Right now we are updating this content for Zope
2.2. The help system will ship with Zope 2.2 and an alpha is available
right now.

  * We've started a Zope API documentation process. Right now there is
an extensive Zope API documentation wiki on Zope.org. The fruits of this
labor will be API docs that will ship with Zope in the online help
system. Right now several API docs are complete and are included in the
current 2.2 alpha.

  * We've overhauled Zope training materials and will make them
available publicly in the next week or so.

  * We're still working on Zope Guides and References replacements. I
think that the training materials will be quite useful for this effort.
I hope to have Guide and Reference replacements done by the end of the
summer.

Thanks for listening.

If you have specific comments or questions about Zope documentation,
please don't hesitate to let me know at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
