Hi Mitchell,

we had almost the same problem over here with the same hard- and software
(minus the raid. Just a mini with High Sierra).
It was not the beachball of death but 4D Server just crashed every few days
without any pattern (sometimes at night, sometimes during the day).
We tried everything to no avail.
What finally worked was to go back to El Capitan on the Server.
From then on we had no more crashes (you could try Sierra, maybe that would
work too).
Must be some incompatibility of 4D V16 with High Sierra.

Greetings from Germany,
Bernd Fröhlich

Re: Win32API 8.1.2 gui_GetWindowEx("") in v16r5

2018-01-29 Thread Peter Hay via 4D_Tech
Hi Jason,

I logged an issue about this with Orchard about a year ago;
https://github.com/OrchardSoftware/4D-Win32API/issues/24

From what they say, it's a 4D Plugin SDK issue and there's a work around,
but Orchard doesn't seem to have implemented it yet.

I haven't hassled them about it, because it's a free plugin, and I'm very
grateful for it. I'm sure they'll get around to fixing it when they can.

I would use the “Console” and see what messages were happening around the time
it goes crazy. Start by checking “Errors and Faults” in the Favorites bar.
Then resort to “All Messages” to see everything.

Could be some messages there will give you an idea of what’s going on. I had a
problem years about on a Mac Pro server machine that would sometimes go deaf.
Very random. Some morning people would come to work and try to log into the
database and couldn’t. They’d go check the server and it would be frozen. I
tracked it down by checking the Console for messages.

I would immediately restart the server and the immediately go check Console and
scroll back up until I got to log entries just before the restart. It turned
out to be a memory issue. The machine was running low on RAM and would get into
a page swap problem and never recover. There was a message in the Console about
“low memory” and then just a few messages after that and it was dead. The fix
was easy. Install another 8GB of RAM in the machine.

Sad news is I don’t think your Mac Mini is RAM upgradable. You buy it with
either 8GB of 16GB and that’s it.

Win32API 8.1.2 gui_GetWindowEx("") in v16r5

2018-01-29 Thread Jason Hect via 4D_Tech

Just tried moving my database over from v15 to v16r5 (windows/server). I use
the Win32API plugin command gui_getWindowEx("") to determine the overall size
of the 4D main window, and scale my windows accordingly. The command is
returning -3 in v16r5.

Is there a work around, or plans to update the plugin?

Thanks!

v13 - Number of field/array pairs for selection to array

I seem to remember that there is limit of 256 pairs for this command.

I am building the command in text to be used by Execute Formula, I want
to be sure that I do not exceed the maximum number of pairs allowed.

Thanks
