I can confirm from experience that VSC can and will crash and corrupt (or maybe
vice versa) a 4D data file. Years ago we had mysterious crashes when the IT
staff added VSS backups to our 4D data file without telling us. It took a long
to realize what was happening.

Hi Timothy

For anyone who runs into this problem, and needs to know the deletion
control parameters on a relationship, this seemed to be the most direct way
to do it.
See also the documentation for the System Tables, available to 4D SQL
commands:
Untested, but with version 18 in source mode you could modify
Project/Sources/catalog.4DCatalog.

Hi Chuck,
No I meant the field definition as in the original post. I cannot alter the
field type etc.. That part of SQL does not work in 4D but I was wondering if
that had changed for v17 or even will for v18.
From the looks of things it doesn't look like it has or will.

Hi Peter,
It sounds like you're dealing with a VM environment, possibly either Hyper-V or
VMWare ESxi -- and that there are two types of backups being done on the
Virtual Machine; host replication and guest backups. Both of these types of
backups being carried out against the VM Guest from
I do not have any information on the checkbox behaviour,
but I think if pdf/destination:3 is for Mac.
you should specify destination:2 on Windows.

In all cases they should be able to set backup to exclude particular files and
or directories. Both backups could be causing problems especially with the

Hi
I have a legacy 4D server which appears to be getting trashed by the backup
services in Windows 10 server.
The platform contractor cannot turn off any of the backup stuff and I can’t
upgrade to v17 for several weeks due to…..reasons, so need to find a way round
this. (There are 2 virtual
Hi,
When using SET CURRENT PRINTER(Generic PDF driver) on Windows 10 with SET PRINT
OPTION(Destination option;3;$path) does not restore the checkbox “Print To File”
I use the Microsoft Print To PDF printer
The checkbox “Print To File” stays on when done printing
I believe this can cause problems

Hi Jeremy
In fact, with this approach there’s not even any need for the invisible buttons
- just associate the [Return] key with the visible default button and the
script can decide whether to execute the query or the default “Accept” action.
