Hi there, Thanks, folks, for all your helpful advice. Certainly the use of %%postscript and %%deco would solve a few problems, but it requires a better knowledge of postscript than I have. The problem of "optional" bars is quite tricky. As far as I can tell, abc2ps and its variants only
