Yes, even for me it happened more than once when I tried to create
gmail account using firefox. But, as far as I know, it doesn't happen
the same with IE. I don't know whether there is any add on to solve
capcha when we use IE. Do we have any? Also, what can be done to
prevent this problem in

Yes, this feature can be used even in Basic HTML View as well. You
just need to hit the tab key after typing the first few letters of the
e-mail ID. The thing is the autofill feature must be enabled. However,
you must be careful if you have more than one ID with similar
beginnings
