Hi, when you go into zoom before joining a meeting or event, have you
gon into audio settings in zoom and checked which device is set for
microphone input? Go into settings there in the zoom, or press enter
on the option test speaker, then, go on pressing tab, when you come to
microphone, varify once which device is zoom taking as microphone,
then set the device which  you have connected or use the feature, test
the mic and try.

Bookshare in partnership with the Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually
Impaired, Mumbai [XRCVC] and The Raised Lines Foundation, Delhi is proud to
present an online workshop on ‘Reading and Writing Math’, as a part of its
ongoing series ‘Accessible Reading’.

The session will be held on the 2nd May from 11 Am to 1 PM, using the Zoom
platform.

The unique workshop will cover the following:
Reading accessible EPUB with Math content.
Writing of Mathematics as a linear text in Word without needing to use any
software.
Accessible reading and writing of Mathematics using MathType and MathPlayer.
Using tactile books to supplement E-books for learning concepts of Maths
and Geometry.

This session is a must attend for
Students wishing to take up Maths and Science subjects during their School
and high school studies.
Parents and teachers of the visually impaired students.
Volunteers who wish to support the visually challenged in study of Maths
and Science.

How to register:
Those participants who have attended our past workshops will be
automatically registered for the workshop and they need not re-register.

Hey, please be careful while suggesting banking related navigation as
opening things in new browser window etc are not really advised. On
the SBI page after you log-in, there's an expand menu link or
something similar to that and clicking on that link will expand the
items and then you can find the payment transfer option.

Hi,
 a few things.
1. Nice course, and I have signed up as well. along with 39 others, so far.
(more on that below)
2. When one fills a form like this, one expects information in there to be
viewable to only the people/staff that's handling the applications/
overviewing candidates etc. a little privicy, you know?
 Right now, anyone and their dog has access to this info, once they have
filled the form.
this has been an issue with Visionaid's forms sinse the start lol. and I
have pointed out such previously as well. hopefully they will fix it soon,
though.
 Cheers again on such a lovely initiative just like all your other projects
are.

I have jaws 18. I have installed neel voice but at the page of create
new profile page neel voice comes but when I change it by pressing
insert ctrl S then it doesn't work. it gives safi voice. Plese suggest

I noticed Jaws 2020! Is that out? By the way, SBI hasn't changed its
user interface lately. I have been using my SBI netbanking almost
daily, the option you may be searching is under right at the front
page namely "payments/transfer". What you need to do, you have to
press shift + enter on this link, it will open with out any issue.

reinstall it after the installation quit the jaws and start again after
that switch voice and see it will be working fine

Hello,
i would suggest go with HP or Lenovo. if you are a not heavy user,
then, no need to go with I7. if you want to use just for note taking
and browsing then I5 10 gen or I3 10 gen is better. I7 is very costly.
according to me, 8gig RAM and 256 GB SSD is the best option for basic
users. windows 10 64 bit is the only option write now available. you
can install 32 bit also. but, 32 bit is not recommended. mostly
laptops come with inbuild windows 10 home addition.

First check, that which version of vocalizer you are installing with jaws
18, vocalizer version 2 is supportable with jaws 18, so install that
version only and if you are installing only one vocalizer voice, then there
is no need to create voice profile. after installing vocalizer, restart the
jaws, after this, press insert + Control + s, in the voice list box, you
will get vocalizer expressive, just press enter on that.

thanks everyone for your inputs. I raised several of these points and
several others that were brought up during our virtual conversation
this past Tuesday. I will continue to raise some of these other bugs
to product teams internally. I can't promise since I don't work on
these teams, but I'll definitely bring these up to the relevant
product folks.

@Sadaf, the Teams bug is a known bug and the Teams team has committed
to fixing it. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, this has
gotten deprioritized as they are focusing more heavily on scalability
etc given the sudden increase in number of users. But hopefully, we'll
have it fixed soon.

@Akash, I-Stem website is inclusivestem.org.

@Vetri, thanks for your feedback. I understand the online
collaborative tools have a long way to go in terms of accessibility,
but the good thing is that the broader Office team has expressed a lot
of interest in fixing these issues.

Also, I would like to invite anyone interested to share their
experiences in a video. I'll forward these to the UN youth envoy's
office who may then publish it on UN social media channels.

Researchers Demonstrate Alternative to Stem Cells Thanks To New Method
of Synthesizing


Age-related macular degeneration (MD) is a variety of ocular disease
that affects so many millions of people, it’s downright characterized
as nothing more
than the process of aging.

In fact, the study of MD has proven itself to be so fruitful for
understanding aging as a whole, MD has become one of the first places
that scientists
have looked to in order to attempt to repair the damage of aging and
restoring youthful, or normal function.

Now in a new paper published in
Nature,
 researchers demonstrate an alternative to stem cells by creating
replacement photoreceptors from skin fibroblast cells via
pharmacological-conversion—a
process that promises to be cheaper, faster, and unburdened by ethical
and legal restrictions.

Containing the genetic code for every protein we need to build and
repair our cells, DNA can become damaged over time through the
stresses of life. Similarly
to how scratches or cracks in a CD prevent lasers from reading the
information on the disk, damaged DNA becomes difficult, and even
impossible for our
RNA (which you could imagine as the laser inside the CD player) to
read the genetic information contained therein.

“The photoreceptor is the neuron in the eye that turns on visual
circuity in response to light which enables us to have vision,” says
Sai Chavala, Ph.D.
and author of the new paper.

The loss of photoreceptors can result in MD and other retinal diseases
that lead to irreversible blindness. In this new study, however, cells
called fibroblasts
can be chemically reprogrammed to produce photoreceptor-like cells
that are now shown to restore vision in mice.


Fibroblasts are cells that help maintain the structural integrity of
connective tissues, and a reduction in fibroblast cell count leads to
wrinkled skin.

Sai Chavala and colleagues from the Center for Retina Innovation in
Dallas, Texas, found a set of five compounds that can drive embryonic
fibroblast cells
to convert themselves into retinal, rod-like, photoreceptors in both
mice and human cells.

“Stem cell-based strategies are extremely exciting,” Dr. Chavala tells
World at Large,
 but adds that generating these cells can be cumbersome and
time-consuming. Describing his strategy of chemically reprogramming
existing cells as a ‘breakthrough,’
Chavala added that the generation of the photoreceptors using his
method requires “a fraction of the time”.

In the study, these converted photoreceptors were transplanted into
the eyes of 14 blind mice to see if they would restore vision.

Owing to their nature, mice with working vision prefer dark spaces,
and so a test of whether or not the transplant was a success was
fairly straight forward;
create a bright space and a dark space and wait to see which one was
preferred by the mice.

Six mice were found to not only have restored visual function and
reflexes—notably in the pupil—but they also preferred to spend their
time in the dark
space. Chavala hypothesizes that it could have been down to how many
of the chemically reprogrammed cells survived the transplant into the
retina that
determined whether vision was restored in the mice or not.

What makes interventions like these—which involve creating brand new
cells to replace the damaged ones—so effective and exciting in the
field of aging
is that they present an alternative to natural replication by
bypassing the difficulties that our own cells have with trying to
repair themselves from
DNA that features double-strand breaks or other blemishes.


Reasons to be hopeful

Adding that these conversions of fibroblasts to photoreceptors has
also been done in humans, Chavala detailed why he believes the
treatments and future
research to spring from this discovery are going to change the field
of ophthalmology.

“ We believe this can be a game changer in the field of regenerative
ophthalmology. We also believe this is a platform technology and have
already started
establishing protocols to generate retinal ganglion cells valuable for
patients suffering from glaucoma,” says Chavala.

In addition to bypassing the ethical and political restrictions and
hiccups with using embryonic human stem cells, the process takes two
weeks, costs less,
and is more scalable than using stem cells.

“It is intriguing to postulate that the addition of other molecules or
modifications to the culture conditions can yield other types of
neurons beneficial
for a variety of neurological diseases,” he adds, discussing possible
alternatives to photoreceptor generation from fibroblasts.

Chavala is rapidly approaching human trials and hopes to have an
FDA-approved treatment out the other end of the pipeline in 2-3 years,
saying he is “thrilled”
with the possibility of allowing millions of people to regain their lost vision.

Twitter adds accessibility features to its progressive web app (PWA).

The April list of updates was released, and it includes a fair amount
of improvements. The Twitter PWA is the default experience on web
browsers these
days, as well as on the Windows 10 app and Chrome OS.

Behavior and features

Twitter is improving the UI for managing multiple Twitter accounts, a
feature that was added back in June of last year. Direct Message
reactions, a recent
addition to the PWA, are also now displayed as selected under the
respective message. For accessibility, focus rings around selected
components will now
use the chosen primary color.

The updates also include a long list of updated behavior for existing
features in the app. Accessibility seems to be a focus in the latest

When your date of birth is set to be visible to “only you,” it will no

parts of the experience, including zooming improvements on touch

Accessibility:

When a Tweet is focused, the “U” keyboard shortcut will mute the Tweet.

Composer:

Moving your cursor off a username or hashtag will now properly close
the typeahead or autocomplete dropdown if it was open.

Emojis added to Tweets via the emoji picker will be saved properly as
part of the Tweet draft.

If you’ve muted a user, re-tweets of their tweets will now be
immediately removed from your timeline.

Video:

Addressed player crashing when attempting to replay.

User Avatar:

Fixed an issue where avatar borders and backgrounds were not
displaying correctly.

User Profile:

Blank usernames that are populated with the user’s @ handle will now
be styled consistently.

The name field will no longer auto populate when editing your profile.

These updates tend to roll out gradually and at different times, so
you may see some of these changes right away, some of them might have
been available
for a while now, and others might not have shown up yet. Regardless,
they should be available in the near future.

Hi Mohit,

The type of configuration which you would want to buy depends on your
purpose/usage for which you require the laptop and also on your budget.
Fiew months back, I have purchased: HP Laptop 14q-cs0xxx which has 256 GB
SSD and 8 GB ram and comes with windows 10 home and intel core I3 7 gen
processor.
I purchased this for around 32000 from amazon.
This is a Lightweight laptop.
