Re: [AI] Irritant with NVDA voice
Hi sir, As Harish ji mentioned, the NVDA 2019.3.1 has moved to Pythen 3 making it impossible to use addons developed for earlier versions of NVDA. Hence, for the time being, either use ESpeak or Windows core voice which has better quality than ESpeak. The fix for the same is coming out very soon. [AI] Irritant with NVDA voice
All Pl find below a post from George which did not get on the list. I am also responding with inline. Harish. Quoting: Just yesterday, I believe the latest update from NVDA was released. I downloaded the same and installed. I was surprise when the voice/speech had dramatically dropped in quality. No idea how I can restore the earlier voice quality. Presently it is quite an irritant to use NVDA. Any way out? It is because most of the plugins have to be updated. You may change the TTS to Windows Core voice for the present until there is clarity and fix for the add-ons. [AI] News of interest: 5-day working week for employees of Maharashtra govt from February 29
THE MAHARASHTRA government on Wednesday announced five-day working week for most of its employees from February 29. While Saturdays and Sundays will be holidays, the employees will have to work for 45 minutes extra the rest of the five days. https://indianexpress.com/article/india/maharashtra-government-employees-five-day-work-week-february-29-6265293/ The decision, modelled on the lines of the Union government and certain states, was taken at a meeting of the state Cabinet. There are over 20 lakh employees in government, semi-government and local bodies in the state. The new rules, however, will not be applicable on officials who come under the ambit of Factories Act or Industrial Disputes Act. Also, employees working in government schools and colleges, hospitals, police and fire brigade have been excluded, as they are required for essential services. The president of Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Association, G D Kulthe, said around 15 lakh employees are set to benefit from the new rule. Till now, apart from a holiday on Sunday, government employees got additional weekly offs on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. “Now, officials will be able to give time to their families… improve their quality of life. It will also help the state save some money on administrative and logistics expenses like electricity, petrol and diesel, as the offices would remain shut on Saturdays,” an official from the general administration department said. The move comes a week after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met with members of the Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Association, who raised the issue with him. Sources said that the five-day week was enforced in the state in 1985. Subsequently, the Centre’s Fourth Pay Commission in 1986 had recommended that weekly working hours be increased to 40 hours. “The Union government had then revised the office timings from 9.30 am to 6 pm, increasing office timings by 45 minutes every day. But employee associations had opposed the move. So, the five-day week plan was shelved in 1988,” a senior official said. Since then, government offices in Mumbai function from 9.45 am to 5.30 pm. Outside Mumbai, the offices function from 10 am to 5.45 pm. From February 29, the offices would be functional from 9.45 am to 6.15 pm. Also, with the new rules, the total number of working days will come down from 288 to 264. The total working hours will, however, increase from 2,088 hours to 2,112 hours, along with an additional 24 hours. Apart from the Centre, governments of Rajasthan, Bihar, Punjab, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal follow the five-day week norm. -- सादर/ Regards अविनाश शाही/ Avinash Shahi सहायक/ Assistant मानव संसाधन प्रबंध विभाग/ Human Resource Management Department भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक/ Reserve Bank of India लखनऊ क्षेत्रीय कार्यालय/Lucknow RO विस्तार/ Extension: 2232 Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] NVDA remote session?
Hi all, I am having a strange issue with my NVDA. Whenever I try to establish a remote session with someone, the person is able to access my machine but I am not able to access his/her machine no matter whatever I do. I've tried everything from the documentation but to no avail. The steps I am following are as follows: 1. Go to NVDA menu>Tools>Remote SubMenu>Connect. 2. From the second option, Select "Control another machine" radio button. Note: in the first option, I am keeping the "Client" radio button checked on both the machines. 3. In the host edit field, type nvdaremote.com. 4. In the key, type my own key/name/number or generate key from the next option and dictate the same to the another person whose machine I want to access. 5. Press OK and a sound should indicate that the connection is established. Now, even if I follow this, the other person is able to access my machine but I am not. Anything wrong? Please help. Hope the overall situation gets under control soon. ==- Wuhan-East Asia Disability Studies Forum, Sakura, Gyoza Nagase Osamu Professor, Institute of Ars Vivendi, Ritsumeikan University If you hear Wuhan, now you will most likely think about a new type of pneumonia caused by coronavirus. I feel that it was a great pleasure to hold the East Asia Disability Studies Forum 2019 in Wuhan October last year. The East Asia Disability Studies Forum has been held in Seoul in 2010, and has been a forum for discussions and exchanges of East Asia's disability studies that have been held every year. Ritsumeikan University's Institute of Ars Vivendi, to which I belong, has been the host organization from the beginning, and started in the framework of Korea and Japan, but has since been joined by China and Taiwan. It cannot be forgotten that the East Asian network formed through open lectures and workshops by REASE (Study on Economic and Social Exclusion), the predecessor of REDDY (Economics of Diversity), contributed greatly to its expansion. . The East Asia Disability Studies Forum 2019 in Wuhan was the tenth in its entirety, with the theme "Inclusive Society for All," and the second in China, following Beijing in 2015. Wuhan is located in central China, facing Yangtze River, the longest river in Asia and the third longest river in the world, flowing from the Tibetan Plateau to the East China Sea. Wuhan is a huge city with a population of more than 10 million, with high-rise buildings. On this visit, I was impressed by the magnificent night view. In modern history, Wuhan is known for the uprising of 1911, which triggered the establishment of the Republic of China, and for the Battle of Wuhan. The Japanese army captured and occupied Wuhan, the temporary capital of the Republic of China's Chiang Kai-shek administration, in 1938. According to Ishikawa Tatsuzo, who accompanied the Japanese army, in concluded his book “Wuhan Campaign” saying that "The war will soon be over, and the wounded soldiers will return soon. Until the day when their life's peace and happiness came to a reality, the full joy of the war was to be put on hold". The renowned blind and disability rights leader Matsui Shinjiro (awardee of Yoshikawa Eiji Cultural Award), who was blinded by the Xuzhou operation prior to the Wuhan operation, comes to mind. Wuhan has famous cherry blossoms. Cherry trees were planted at Wuhan University, which was seized by the Japanese army during the war to comfort injured Japanese soldiers. And now many citizens go to Wuhan University for cherry-blossom viewing. I first visited Wuhan in August 2013. I was invited to participate in inclusive education and employment meetings and training events for young people with disabilities, including those with intellectual disabilities, organized by disability and civil society organizations in China. The meeting adopted the "Wuhan Declaration" as a result. It was a time when there was still freedom, sometimes shortly after the inauguration of the current administration. At present, this is impossible, and it is really sad that training opportunities for young people with disabilities have been closed. I was a bit nervous about the visit to Wuhan, as Japan-China relations were very bad due to the issue of the Senkaku Islands, and the anti-Japanese demonstration across China had taken place in the previous 2012. In fact, I was really welcomed by the Chinese participants. It's a wonderful memory that volunteer staff students have asked me many times to join their photos. During the meetings, the staff of Wuhan University Public Interest Law Development Center, guided me another participant from Japan to the famous Yellow Crane Tower sung in Li Bai's poem. She asked me and at the Yellow Crane Tower with a good view, "I'm close to my house, so please have lunch at my house". We appreciated the generous offer and accepted the snap invitation. When she arrived at her house, her relaxed father was surprised that her daughter suddenly brought foreign guests. However, as soon as he understood about the situation, he immediately went out of the way to go out to buy ingredients in the terrible heat to cook water dumplings with his daughter (gyoza) for our lunch. While eating, I could not help asking about the war between Japan and China. He told me that one of relatives died. Hearing this, I appreciated the gyoza more. When we left, he even gave us beautiful ink

[AI] NVDA remote session?
Hi there, I am having a strange issue with my NVDA. Whenever I try to establish a remote session with someone, the person is able to access my machine but I am not able to access his/her machine no matter whatever I do. I've tried everything from the documentation but to no avail. The steps I am following are as follows: 1. Go to NVDA menu>Tools>RemoteSubMenu>Connect. -- With best regards, Satguru Rathi Mobile: +919871489945, +919315516985 Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe.
