Hi Pranav,

I am not only eager to learn Hindi to talk to our list members, because I
realize you can mostly speak very good English. I would talk to you in Hindi
when I am ready so you could correct my poor language and help me improve.

My eagerness to learn Hindi is so that I could be accepted in society as not
being a mleccha, yavana or such foreigner, particularly here in Vrindavana.
And, those who don’t think of us that way, I would like to make friends with
here in my new home neighbourhood.

Also, many people living here are of very saintly character, so I would like to
converse and learn from them, and associate with them for my own spiritual
advancement.

Another reason is that as a blind person I would like to be able to not be
further complicated by not being able to communicate, for that would
effectively mean being as good as deaf and dumb also. I have already found at
the banks, hospital, Government departments Etc, people do not like to speak
English, or perhaps they don’t know English here in Vrindavan very much so they
might be shy to try even if they might be able to.

A lot of education is already needed to help people understand that blind
people deserve basic human rights, and by speaking no Hindi, how am I supposed
to help them? Some months back I went to Union Bank to open an account, and the
consultant there who did speak English told me that I can only open a joint
account with my wife because I cannot see. The Aadhaar agent at HDFC where I
first tried applying for it did not want to make my application because of the
retina scan biometrics. Now I am refused to buy a house in my own name so I
have to own it jointly with my wife. The house registration happens possibly
tomorrow, and instead of being a day of celebration, I am feeling it to be a
day of intimidation instead of feeling any joy over buying a home. So by
learning Hindi I will be able to stand up for my rights, whereas now I feel
totally helpless being blind in India.

I am coming into the country so it is by right that I learn our local language,
not that they must learn the language I am coming in with, the language of our
former colonizers and oppressors (even till this day). Just see how many
Western ideals we have adopted which disadvantage us: This whole economy based
on inflation and corruption hidden by bureaucracy is deeply entrenched even in
India nowadays.

So I have very many reasons to learn Hindi. Still, your prayers will help so
that I can remember new words and language construction rules. I am hoping that
in 3 years I would be ready to speak enough to challenge an argument which is
based on faulty logic, with sastrically sound logic and reasoning! Wow that’s a
tall order! Hopefully my Sanskrit diction will help me somewhat get started.

Have a great day, everyone.

Dear Yamuna,

A significant chunk of list members speak in English hence you can communicate
with them right now without any problems.

Listen to any of the access-india convention recordings and you will find that
the majority of the content is in English.

If we had 100% internet connectivity, I would submit that language is not a
barrier since you could use translator apps.

Hi,

Agreed. The structured method I use is the excellent audio tutorial by Rupit
Snell and his Indian native speaking crew. Chat GPT helps me understand
grammatical questions I might have such as the one I shared, while studying
from the structured program.

In a few years hopefully my diction will be larger than a peanut! so
that I can speak to you guys in good enough Hindi that you won’t find it funny
enough to have fun laughing!

what a comprehensive reply by chat GPT?

really amazed!

however, the important thing to note here is that any language needs to be
learnt in a structured manner as opposed to the mere translation method.

I guess that is difficult with chat GPT.

@Gufran, yes you are right, this is a service given by Fortum Drive
and Charge. One prepaid card is provided by PinePerks for spending
online murchants and offline stores. This is wonderful card as you can
use it after loading from any credit or debit card. By this way you
remain risk free and can get as maximum cashback as your credit card
or debit card gives you. For instance, HDFC millenia debit card gives
you 2.5% real cashback and SBI cashback credit card provides 5% real
money, same can be availed if using this prepaid card after loading
this card. However this card doesn't work for loading money to any
wallet such as paytm, amazon or paulpay etc.

Hi please elaborate more about this prepaid debit card. As I have searched about Fortum Drive on google, it offers charging solutions for EV. Sent from Mail for Windows From: Mohib Anwar RafaySent: 01 May 2023 08:01 AMTo: accessindia@accessindia.org.inSubject: Re: [AI] Be careful! POS machines found stealing credit, debit card details I generally use my credit card at POS to be more safe, as in case offraudulant transaction we can get the card charged back untill thedispute is resolved. More safer way is to use specific prepaid debitcard for swiping at point of sales turminals. I have Fortum Drive andCharge prepaid physical card which i load using my SBI cashback creditcard with small amount of 5 or 10 thousands rupees. By this way, I get5% cashback at offline spents too. Therefore be safe and morekifaaiti. On 5/1/23, Pranav Lal wrote:> Minar,> > This is a global problem.
