Re: [AI] Update required on accessibility of iTOI, iNDTV and iBBC

2018-08-03 Thread Arijeet Patil
I’ve clarified, the TOI app is still a little unusable navigation-wise, so now
my only doubt is, how do you make it show all search results rather than only
the 30 or so recent results on TOI and NDTV (if the feature is there)?
Would like a response latest by Sunday, as my exams will prevent me from
checking most of my mail later on.
Thank you.
Arijeet.

Subject: Update required on accessibility of iTOI, iNDTV and iBBC

Dear friends,
I need an update on the accessibility of the iOS TOI, NDTV and BBC apps, as I
deleted them after installing iOS 12’s beta to switch to Windows for checking
these news services. I would especially like to know – where is te contact us
in the NDTV app and the new layout of the TOI app?
This is a desperate and urgent need as I am not being able to make full
searches on the TOI website, wherein all actual results that contain the search
term do not show up.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you.

Once again, congratulations to all of you who have received this prestigious
award and helped in your own ways to change attitudes to the disabled (this

get one for its work), and may you have great successes in the future!

Subject: [AI] Your disability is your ownership - My Take by Amar Jain, winner,
NCPEDP Mphasis Javed Abidi Public Policy Award 2018

https://newzhook.com/story/19211

While I am not a big fan of sharing my own stories, but little I knew that it
can lead to mindset change. Amazing work by Newz Hook.

From small-town Jodhpur to a career as a successful equity capital markets
lawyer with one of India's top law firms, Amar Jain's journey is truly an
inspiration. In My Take this week, Jain, who is one of the winners of the
NCPEDP Mphasis Javed Abidi Public Policy Award 2018, shares his story.
None of my family members have any career background in law whatsoever. My
father is into jewellery, my mom takes care of my food pampering, and my
brother is a software engineer. In fact, when I had to decide on a career
option, my father thought that law would be the easiest, given that his friends
studied a day before the exams, and yet did well for themselves!
I was born prematurely. While I was born fine, excess oxygen and negligence by
doctors damaged my retina. I developed retinal detachment. In simple terms, my
retinal veins do not have blood circulation for them to be able to generate
eyesight. In my case, the problem got diagnosed when I was four months old at
which point saving my retina was a nil possibility.
At the time, my family was based in Jodhpur where access to information,
awareness levels, opportunities, etc were all rather limited. The early days of
post-disability diagnosis are hard for anyone. Given the limited awareness, the
attitude you get is mostly sympathy rather than positivity.
Battling disability stereotypes
My parents did whatever they could to accommodate my blindness. As for others,
they changed their thinking based on how I changed. I used to get comments like
- 'what will this poor blind fellow do?' For people at large, I was more like a
social service obligation.
I used to sing and play musical instruments during those days, so people
thought I would become someone famous like the late Ravindra Jain. Everywhere I
went, I would be asked to sing and then people would give me food and sometimes
money. But no one would talk to me. All this led me to quit music completely.
I got admitted to a blind school, which had its pros and cons. The thinking
there is quite limited. As career options, few were shown. In terms of sports,
cricket, chess and playing cards were the only avenues. Things like grooming,
no one talked about, all of which impacts you later in life.
The biggest challenge at that point in time was to acquire material in a format
which you could read on your own. Books were not available after class 9 in
Braille, and getting audio recordings done was a challenge. I was lucky enough
to find teachers who were enlightened and that got me here.
Attitude change
The turning point was in class 5 when I wanted to go for tuitions like my
friends. I went to my dad and said either get me tuitions or I can’t study
these books. He slapped me really hard and said either learn to do self-study,
or I will get a silver bowl for you to beg, because that’s the only thing you
can do in life if you can’t study. Exactly three days thereafter, I kept all my
books in front of him, and told him “Ask me anything from wherever you want.”.
That one instance made me work for achieving dignity of my own.
After school I started looking at various career options. We decided that law
was the best option as every government department needs a law officer. I
thought if I do law, I can also help my community to get the rights which all
of us deserve.
Today, I am an equity capital markets lawyer. Simply put, when companies want
to raise money by listing their shares on the stock exchanges, or raise further
capital by issuing new shares or debentures, they come to lawyers like us, for
diligence, documentation, and other transactional advice. Unlike traditional
lawyers, I don’t go to court rooms. I work with a corporate law firm in Mumbai.
I love this area for many reasons.
First, I am not stitched to a particular industry or a company. So the
knowledge which I derive about different industries and companies is a huge
incentive.
Second, due to the current challenges where technology fails, many experienced
professionals believe that it is not possible for a blind person to become a
successful capital markets lawyer. And I want to change this while I have the

[AI] Some queeries regarding acquiring a new Pure-Windows Desktop

2018-07-21 Thread Arijeet Patil
Dear list,
At present, I have a hybrid computer, of a Mac model but running Windows. I am
considering getting my self a new, purely windows, desktop.
I am eyeing Dell, two of whose laptops I own and one desktop was rendered
unusable 5 years ago.
However, I would especially like to know, which of these desktops have Realtek
HD Drivers, or in general Audio Drivers that would allow you to use quirky
audio enhancements like adjusting the pitch and Sound Environment, Equalizer,
etc.
Would like to know soon.
For those of you who are celebrating, Happy Ekadashi!
Thank you.
Regards,
Arijeet.
PS: I had specified the same criteria I.e audio enhancements such as adjusting
the pitch (with the addition of speed) when asking recommendations for the
latest accessible Android Phone to by. I havn’t received a clear reply on that
discussion. If any of you found specifications on that topic too vague, I
humbly apologize.

Re: [AI] Some queeries regarding purchase of a new laptop

2018-07-21 Thread Arijeet Patil
I strongly recommend buying a dell. I have used two off and on since the last 4
years. I cannot say anything about other brands as the ones I used before the
afore-mentioned one are all older or expired models now like Compack and HP,
but this is certain, if you by a dell, you will never regret it!
I am planning to purchase a Macbook myself, so I could give you my inputs once
I get it. Till then, what are your suggestions about it?

[AI] NVDA extremely unresponsive on BBC website

2018-06-07 Thread Arijeet Patil
Dear friends,
Off late, NVDA has been unresponsive on my computer with the BBC website, often
causing it to crash, even in succession after i choose to recover the page.
This is the latest in a series of bugs with both screenreaders which I feel
have demoralized my usage of NVDA as well as Jaws.
Until we can do something to pressure the developers to fix these issues, I am
using NVDA as my primary screenreader, and have switched back to iBBC, planning
to download Windows BBC, TOI and NDTV as well.
Thank you all.
Regards,
Arijeet.
PS,
Has the iOS 12 beta reached India on air? Or is it yet to be transitioned from
Alphatesting.

[AI] Bug with Jaws when detect languages automaticly is on

2018-06-05 Thread Arijeet Patil
Dear list,
I am having a bug reading Devanagari in Jaws2018 with detect languages
automaticly enabled.
When that feature is on and it is reading Devanagari, it often times keeps
saying on, “Arabic”. This apparently has no connection to Arabic/Farsi loan
words or the sign to write the “Z” introduced from them.
For now, I have that setting off, but we’ll soon have to raise this with
Freedom Scientific and VFO.
Hope to hear soon.
Thank you all.
Regards,
Arijeet.

Re: [AI] keyboard suggestions.

2018-06-02 Thread Arijeet Patil
Dear all,
I would like to add to this by stating that I too have a Logitech bluetooth
keyboard in my ownership. I alternate it’s usage between my iPhone, iPad and
iPod. It works quite well with all, however sometimes the keyboard home button
or typing, also the lock button, crash and I fix this by switching of and then
on again the keyboard switch.
I am also posing a question - does the Logitech work with Android phones even
better than the onmobile keyboard (if present)? If so, which device operates
the best with the keyboard?
Would like to here your opinions soon.
Thank you.
Best wishes of the monsoon (keep safe in the light of the recent electricutions
of, among others, kids) and regards,
Arijeet.
Hope this helps

[AI] How to play audio files on Wikipedia using Jaws?

2018-06-02 Thread Arijeet Patil
Ddear all,
I am now using Jaws as my standard screen reader and NVDA only for Mathtype.
However, the only difficulty in reswitching has been playing audio files in
wikipedia. In NVDA, before the menu containing the controls for playing the
file, the play clip eyecon appears along with another eyecon following the menu
toggling between play and pause depending on the situation. But with Jaws,
these icons do not show up at either ends of the menu.
Hope to receive a reply in due course.
Thank you.
Best wishes of the monsoon (keep safe everybody) and regards,
Arijeet.

Re: [AI] How to download Realtek HD Audio Manager on a 64bitcomputer?

2018-05-26 Thread Arijeet Patil
Thank you all allot for your inputs and information, it really helped me in
coming to an understanding. I’ve realized that in Windows10, contrary to
oearlier versions, downloading the manager to get enhancements or having the
enhancements even without the manager is an atribute of only the High Def and
not both the HD and general drivers. I think, on that satisfying note, we close
the discussion.

Arijeet.

It is at the bottom of the laptop, near to the battery pack hinges.

Give me a call if you face any difficulty with locating the tag, will
be easier to guide over the phone.

HTH,
Ajay

Hi Arijeet,

The service tag is generally written on a small sticker pasted firmly
at the bottom of your laptop. It is a 7-8 alphanumaric thing, any
person with eyesight should easily be able to find it for you.

Hi Arijeet,

Have you tried your laptop's dedicated support page on dell's website?

For that, go to Dell india support and enter your laptop's service
tag. It should show you all the available drivers for your machine.

Dear all,
I am intent on buying the newly-released Victor Reader Trekk. I have been
hearing about its trademark GPS as well as bluetooth capabilities and it’s
greatly-enhanced memory and sd capacity from the older models.
I would like to know one more detail about this easy to use and incredible
gadget window to the world for us. Has there been any change in the speed or
pitch ranges from the earlier model? I would like to know this out of general
curiosity as well as because I like to equalize the speeds and pitches of all
my electronics that support them to a set value.
Hope to hear soon.

computer’slatest supported version of the driver, but that did not help too,
probably because the file doesn’t contain the Manager, or something like that.
Recently, the most apparent falt I discovered was thatone of the items
extracted from the .cab file is missing, with a Microsoft “Ding” sound before
the extractor closes being possibly related. It looks like the file is either
missing or a system or some other hidden file.
Would like to know your suggestions on workarounds.

Arijeet Patil.

Re: [AI] Effectively organizing religious ceremonies andparticipating in them, and concerning latest EVO E5 Firmware Version

2018-05-05 Thread Arijeet Patil
Dear list,
From the point of view of an attendee, I find weddings quite enjoyable, though
I get disheartened when it gets into a slightly over the top visual mood such
as the already mentioned shooting photo after photo as well as the colours
involved in the décor. I have had loads of dancing practice experiences, and
particularly partake in dancing at weddings with close ones present as partners.
As I get older, probably, and my responsibilities increase, I will possibly
realize the context in which these tasks are considered daunting according to
this discussion.
Thank you all for sharing your inputs in this discussion. I have been mostly
inactive on this list as I find many of the issues talked about not relevant to
me (especially my age and consequential life situation) but on the other hand
understanding is a key element of teamwork, and I try to the best of my
abilities to recognize the scale and impact of the discussed topics. I think
I’m having a fresh start after this matter.
On a new subject, I would like to enquire about the latest firmware version of
EVO E5. I had been using it for some time but discarded it as I felt the
version I was using was outdated. Does the version depend on the model
(Monolingually English, bilingually English and Hindi, or the Multilingual
Model) of the gadget? I am using the Monolingual Model, which is using a
version starting with “1” and released on 14 May 2015. If this is not the
latest firmware and the version does not depend on the model, is there a way to
upgrade it?
Would like to know your valuable opinions.
Best regards,
Arijeet Patil.

Thanks, Rajesh sir and Kriti. Rajesh sir, thanks for that elaboration. I also
think that, in recent years, a lot of things have gotten transferred from box 2
to 3 and some from box 3 to 4. That said, there are a fair number of things
that still remain in box 1, which are really irreversible, and some in box 2
which can be transferred to box 3 or 4 with appropriate interventions and
ability.

Kriti, thanks for those points. I did participate in many of the things you
mentioned, such as deciding the textual content of cards and finalizing the
food menu. But during the course of the actual wedding, one has to take the
back seat which can be disheartening. This also gets widely noticed by all and
sundry, and people are quick to pass judgment. If one is an introvert on top of
having a disability, things become even harder.

Dear friends,
Since this subject was last raised, I feel that TOI largely still remains
inaccessible mostly in terms of navigation and article-reading, and that NDTV
may have returned to it's original inaccessible state.
I feel that it is important to prioritize on these issues otherwise we will not
be able to enjoy valuable news sources which our sited friends out there can
easily access, gaining awareness about the latest what's ons and thus making
them even more conscious citizens.

[AI] Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And vision for the differently-abled’s rights.

2017-12-31 Thread Arijeet Patil
Dear all,
I would like to wish you a very Happy, Glorious, Prosperous and Joyous 2018 and
may god bring lot’s of piece to you! I have, for the first time, become aware
that our country’s appearing Eutopian image is not true. We, like everything
else, also imperfect except god, and Human Rights, dispite being enshrined and
guaranteed too, is a major concern. Let us, in this year and years to come,
work for the betterment of rights, especially of us differently abled. My
parents and school as well as XRCVC have been asking the ICSE to allow me to
use a computer for all exams, as I feel scribes are unfair play except where it
is mandatory for mainstream too, especially colleges.
Once again, have a joyous New Year!
Regards,
Arijeet.

Re: [AI] Query about the treatment of RP in Lv Prasad Eye Institute Hyderabad

2017-12-27 Thread Arijeet Patil
I am extremely overjoyed, extatic and delighted to be informed of this. I’m
blind because of RP or ROP, caused due to prematurity. I would very much like
to be treated and to gaze at the landscapes as well as utilise my hering, and
learn the print alphabet and pen literally, as “mostbody” do.

Once again, thank you.

Re: [AI] Scratchy and unclear audio afger waking laptop from sleep mode

2017-12-05 Thread Arijeet Patil
Many a times when I’m little out of swing, I leave my work open and only close
it afterwords...besides that I have only Word Web and nothing else open. As far
as I know, I havn’t set the computer to sleep after a certain time, and I’ve
seen it happen. Maybe Dell his put it as part of the Balanced (Recommended) or
I think Delle (don’t know which is the default) plan, also recommended, for
conservation, or there is a falty error.
All please keep safe during Ockhi and provide support as best as you can to
those in need and yourselves.
Regards, Arijeet Patil.

Re: [AI] Scratchy and unclear audio afger waking laptop from sleep mode; appeal for Feedback to Saksham regarding pitch change on their EVO E5

2017-12-04 Thread Arijeet Patil
This issue is affecting my laptop too, though it doesn't happen immediately
after I have woken it up. I have realised that this happens most commonly
with Sapi voices. I have experienced this only on NVDA and am using Jaws
rarely. Is the manner of this happening the same for Jaws? Also, I would
sincerely like to ask anyone to give a feedback to Saksham regarding pitch
change on their EVO E5. For those of whom with a musical ear, you may have
noticed that the audio pitch changes with a semitone-based variation. I feel
it should change with a quartertone change simeler to the Victor Reader and
many other products that support changing the pitch. If the present lowest
and highest is to be maintained with this new change, I suggest that we
recommend to them to make the values on either side of the normal twice
their current numbers, expanding from -5-+5 to -10-+10.
Thank all,
Regards,

Subject: [AI] Scratchy and unclear audio afger waking laptop from sleep mode

hi,
a strange thing with audio in my Dell laptop running Windows 10 version
1709 with the latest built and NVDA is causing great concern.
I have just updated to the latest version of the OS on Friday and have
actually begun using my laptop properly only today after that .
I've been noticing every time I wake my laptop from sleep mode, the audio
is scratchy and has a static sound when NVDA speaks. I have tried to run
JAWS 18.032 as well with the same result.
however, if I shut down and restart, it runs just fine. I have checked to
see all my updates are in place.
any ideas on why is this happening? I am not technologically savvy enough
to know all about my drivers and chips to sort this myself.
 thanks for any help.
 Payal
