i know the GPE storm message is only posted once, and it happens after, because
the EC is involved in the backlight animation this laptop/firmware does on
level changes,

It's better to open EC debug to see what happen in the EC driver during
changing brightness.
Please open the EC debug and attach the output of dmesg after changing
brightness.
