Hi
Depending on the type of FAStT subsystem your customer is using, you have
the possibility to connect separate SATA-based FASTt100 cabinets
containing 250GB SATA disks.
This would be benificiary for your customer, as he would be able to
administer the disks as he does with his existing
Hi
I think for resolving this issue to ceate on my dsm.sys two stenza
1. servername A with an inclexcl management fullmgm
2. severname B with an inclexl management incrmgm
To create two dsm.opt ( dsm_full.opt and dsm_incr.opt)
1. dsm_full.opt with servername A
2. dsm_incr.opt
Hi,
I have upgraded to TSM 5.2.00.
Since the upgrade, the web gui administration is too slow. Has anyone
noticed a similar situation ?
If so, did you resolve to the problem and how?
Thanks

Hi,
Yes, we have. We opened a call with IBM and this went nowhere. Maybe you
have more luck.

I have one TSM 5.2 running on Linux without problems (but no update).
This will not work. Robert is effectively asking if he can manage a given
node's files with two different sets of management criteria. This is not
possible with TSM, since all backup versions of a file must be managed by
the same criteria. Thus when the backup versions are rebound to FULLMGM,
Is it also slow when accessing the web gui local on the server itself?
If not, it could be a dns issue.
We had in a test environment a dramatic performance when accessing the web
gui from another machine towards the tsm server.
The problem was solved when a ptr record was added in dns for the tsm
Is it possible to do a DB Backup to disk that is on another server

I really need to do this SOON!
I am using Win2K TSM 4.3 but we should be upgrading in March! So currently

Can't see why not as long as you can mount it.
Create a disk device class, for the path you use a mapped drive to the
other server. (don't know if unc paths is supported, we have unix) Then
use this device class to backup your database. This has all been in the
list before ofcourse.

Dear Richard
The ITSM GUI client ver 5.1.6 is being used for restores on a Windows NT
4.0 Server operating system. The ITSM server ver is 5.1.7.
While I try to restore a folder from the backup from the client I am

Jack,
I have gotten that to work before,
But I haven't tried it at 4.3 on Win2K, so I can't say absolutely that it
will work:
Your TSM server is running as a service on your WIn2k machine.
The question is whether or not that service has enough Windows rights to

What platform ?
My TSM server on AIX at 5.2.0.0 is working just fine. In fact, I am

Please respond to ADSM:
Steve,
It doesn't work quite like that.
Client applications do not have access to those TSM Server statistics.
A TSM client tells the TSM Server that it wants to back up an object that
has a certain estimated size. The TSM Server then accepts or rejects
the object creation based upon the
It would help if you could provide details on how you know the restore has

*specific*, vague textual descriptions are insufficient for diagnosing
technical problems). The symptoms you have mentioned thus far do not

I use the web GUI all the time with no problems.

Hi, my approach:
Design your primary pool on fast disks with a size that is enough for your
daily backupvolume.
If the daily backup volume is not to much and the main volume comes from
daily changing files you can size your primary pool
so that the files expire on primary before they migrate to
I don't see a servername entry in the dsm.opt. I don't know about
DiskXtender, but for normal TSM clients, this is required.

Hello,
This is an incomplete list, but check:
1. If you have passwordaccess PROMPT in dsm.opt. I know this is the default, but maybe
DX2000 is looking for it.
2. If you node definition on the server has Allow Backup Delete set to Yes
Hope this helps

Then it is most likely a DNS issue; a reverse lookup zone and a PTR record
for the TSM server will likely do the trick.

I'm considering changing the way I do my TSM DB backups; I've heard some user
experiences about backing up to remote server volumes, and it appears that
this would simplify a lot of work, and save oodles of space.
Here's how I've got it sketched in my mind right now:
A server instance whose
Hello;
I thought we were the only people on the planet using NDMP. Without knowing
what version of Tivoli/OS/OnTap you are using; TSM v5.2.0.2 supports file
level backup/restore. You have to use a table of contents. This info is
available in the ITSM Administrators Guide v5.2 (chapter 6). Hope
Ya know... I've been doing TSM for long enough that I should be able to
do this simple command, but I'm stumped...
I have a filesystem with many, many subdirectories. What I want
to do is to restore all the *.tar files I can find in a certain
~subdirectory~
For example, here is a

I can get this command to show me what is backed up:
q backup /image_data50/*/05/*.tar -inactive=yes -subdir=yes
But when I change it to a restore command, I get this:
tsm restore '/image_data50/*/05/*.tar' -inactive=yes -subdir=yes
Restore function invoked.
