Hi Jack!
Maybe your prayers will be heard! I was invited a few weeks ago bu IBM to
evaluate the new TSM GUI (version 5.3 I guess) but my boss didn't allow me
to go... :-(((
I personally would like to see the old ADSM admin GUI return (or a similar
port to Java) with all copy and sort options we

Hi everyone,
I need to restore a users mail database using TDP for Lotus Notes.
Prior to restoring this mail database I need to find out how long backups
taken are kept before expiring. I know there is a way of checking this but
can't remember how to find this information. Would somebody
Hello.
I have a problem. Accidentally during delete space all data (archive and
backup) were deleted. However only backup data were suppose to be deleted :(
The deletion occured about 2 weeks ago, so the rollback operation is a
little bit difficult.
Is there any way to restore the missing archive
I've been through that situation with two of my customers.
It was about 450GB of archived data which had to exported (using 3590-E1A
tape drives). It took about 4 hours to bring up an old version of the
database (we couldn't use a different TSM server an connect it to some
drives and there was

I suppose all the data is still on the tapes. ...
See last week's discussion of this situation. Unless your Reusedelay covers two
weeks, restoring the TSM db back two weeks may be a waste of time, unless tapes
just happen not to have been re-used.
I have a Win2k node that I need to run a pre schedule command that runs an
application DB backup. The only way I have been able to get the batch file
to run is using Win2k's at commands with the /interactive switch.
Any ideas how I can accomplish this using a pre-sched command?
Thanks,
Hello everyone,
Here is an issue that I have never felt comfortable with, and it is
being raised yet again in our environment as we consider how to squeeze
every bit of performance out of our poor overworked TSM server (5.1.6.2

We just migrated from MS-Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 (I think it is)
and went to a clustered environment - two nodes in active/active mode,
with the userbase and info-store split between them. And, of course,

Look at the backup copygroup settings for the
management class that you are backing the databases up to.
The QUERY COPYGROUP command on the TSM Server will
enable you to see the policy settings including
how many copies to keep and for how long to keep them.

Tom,

Tom,
From the looks of it, only the TDP is installed. In the readme it is stated that:

Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange version 5.2.1
requires the following MINIMUM software levels:
- IBM Tivoli Storage Manager API 5.1.5
The API is deliverd
The client manual has a pretty good discussion on how to configure the
PRESCHEDULECMD setting.
Also, try going to the IBM web site http://www.ibm.com and searching on:
+preschedulecmd +script +tsm
There you will find several articles discussing related issues, including
one on diagnosing
1) Can they connect from the TDP gui and/or command line ?
2) If so, can they backup the Exchange server ?
3) If not, what are the errors they are receiving ?
Check the tsm\tdpexc\dsierror.log and dsmerror.log, also, check the
event viewer for this system and see if any additional errors are
Tom,
Can you please get the answers to these questions
from your people?
1. What do you see in the TDPEXC.LOG file?
2. What errors messages are you getting?
Check the output the TDPEXC.LOG file and the
output of the TDPEXCC command?
3. Does the userid that owns the Windows Scheduler
1) Yes
2) Yes
And this is why I'm thinking it's actually a scheduling issue.

Drat! I missed that! . . . What is fascinating is that the backups can
be run by hand and look like they're working correctly . . .
We'll drop the API on and see if anything changes.
Thanks.

Tom,
This isn't the problem. Data Protection for Exchange
automatically ships and installs the TSM API.
You do not need to install the TSM BA client
unless you decide to the use the TSM BA client scheduler.
Please refer to my previous append to get more
details about the problem.
Thanks,

Thanks, Del -- I feel a bit better now.
I'll have the guys look at the tdpexch.log and see if there's any
indication of the process trying to start and then quitting without
attempting to contact the tsm server (or reporting it can't FIND the tsm
server).
