Dear All,
My TSM backup server holds approx 15Tb of data collected from some 80
servers.
The twin 4560 library holds 56 tapes.
Approx. 150 tapes are offline.
The primary disk storage is 120Gb.
As you can imagine reclamation takes quite a lot of time as the system

Hi Eric,
Thank you for the reply. I'm a DBA with not much experience of Tivoli.
Where should this log file be located?

Hi Brendan!
The location of sbtio.log is controlled by the user_dump_dest option in your
Oracle initialization file. The default is directory is
$ORACLE_HOME/admin/hostname/udump
You could also use the find command...

Hi Eric,
I have checked the sbtio.log file in the udump directories for both RMAN and
PROD database. RMAN stbio.log is empty and PROD stbio.log has a last
modified date of 18/04/05.
Our issue started on 04/05/05.

Yes, is possible, we have a couple installations running where the same
library supports both backup products, with IBM3584, and with L700. I am
pretty sure you can do it with all the large scale libraries provided that
the library supports true sharing and zoning.

Hallo,
And thanks for the suggestions, they prompted us to investigate a few
avenues.
We tracked it down to an issue with the 5.2.0.0 client on Solaris.
Upgrading to 5.2.2.0 has fixed the problem - although I am still trying
to find a page on ibm.com describing the fault.
Thanks,
Matt.

Hi Patrick!
Try an audit volume for this tape. If you see that it has repaired files,
you will have to do a move data for the tape.

Hi Patrick!
This is probably related to APAR IC36609 which has been fixed in 5.1.8.0.
Why don't you upgrade to the latest 5.1 level, which is 5.1.10.0?

That's what maintenance is for... You can go to a higher level than
your 5.1.6.2, where there are fixes for Audit Volume problems, per
the server Readme file.

If you go in and look at some of the queries already defined by Tivoli in the

Folks,
Sorry if this is a FAQ..
I'm trying to generate reports from our TSM database that are

Is this the time retention on the DB?
How do I find out?

You are searching the activity log, which has a user defined retention

I disagree with John's recommendation to step up tape reclamation to get
over a short term lack of scratch tapes unless your pending re-use delay
will expire before the tapes arrive.
My inclination would be to stop all reclamations until the new tapes

I have to agree for off-site reclamation. With reclamation running you
can take up additional tapes that are off-site giving you even less to
work with at the present time. Reclamation for your local tapes(on-site
tapepool) should help gain back tapes.

Without knowing what your TSM environment is like it's hard to say..

I've gotta ask Geoff,
Why, with a 3494 and LTO library would you move TSM to LTO? My first option
would be to move veritas to the 3494.
3494 is industrial strength and plays well in multi host and multi
application environments. Use 3592 drives and you'll have capacity to burn.
