Hi TSM Cow Boys/Girls
I would like to abuse of your busy time.
I discover that 2 of my several servers have a recovery Log pinned.
I use the TSM/ADSM QuickFacts which point me to IBM site article

I forgot something else, if it is 2 of your servers illustrating the
same behaviour, the offending operation could be a server to server

Daemon processes often employ lock or PID files, recording the

I believe Solaris 7+ has this little tool which might be useful to you:
pgrep process name
And it's twin:
pkill process name
Both accept the same arguments. The '-U' option is nice if you need to

Hi,
pkill is really nice, but I recommend not using the verbose -v
option ;-).
I used that once to kill all evolution processes on my machine:
pkill -v evolution

unknown option :-).

One additional point to the proprietary nature of the database.
It is my understanding that a large consideration for the design of the
database, is down to TSM's random access storage pools and the ability
of the database technology to employ 'bit vectors' to track the location

There isn't really a perfect way to do what you want in the web gui.
For HL_NAME, the defined width of the column is 1024, and for LL_NAME,

One thing you can do is use the admin command line version of the client

Allen,
I don't actually have anything I LIKE on any platform except the
mainframe!
On AIX, at least I can see %busy on the SCSI bus that has tape - I can
tell something is going on, or not.
And on Windows I can get %idle time on disk, but NOTHING on tape.
Any suggestions?

This is a two part series held over 2 days covering a range of backup options.
Presenters will provide useful advice about where to apply each option for each
type of backup. Include/exclude list will be discussed different types of
backup: Selective, incremental, image, backup sets
Wanda,
What utility are you using to monitor the %busy for the tape scsi bus on
AIX? That would be very helpful to me to be able to see that
information.
Thanks!

The 2 TSM Servers does not communicate together at all: there are
independant.
From the show logpin, I have this answer

Transaction table Lsn=0.0.0, Running DB backup Lsn=0.0.0, Log

Not really on-topic but I noticed your grep -v grep and thought you
might like;
ps -ef | grep [d]smserv
will do the same!

We have the same problem too, these are different reports since timing

I believe the *.ext files are your custom reportsWhen you

I have a question on backups and how if you mix full backups and
incremental backups the data is stored.
We are running TSM 5.2.2 on all our TSM clients(AIX, SUN, Windows 2000,
windows 2003), and the server is AIX 5.2 with TSM 5.2.2.
We normally just run incremental for all our
Eric,
To organize your data, the following command should do the trick: *move

I've just got a question out of curiosity concerning the TSM database:
-is it a DB2 database?
No
-is it a modified DB2 database
No
-or is it a complete propietry database
Yes
-or based on another database engine
No
The x64 code is at

The IA64 is for Itanium only. If you are sure that you ran the install from a
client downloaded from the above then I'd open a call with support.

Hi!
You can perform sometimes full/selective backup to achieve better restore speed.
Caution, this will always add a new file version to TSM,
even for unchanged files,
so check it against your backup management class definitions.
Example: assuming you know your File a is changing once a week
