Is a direct fiber attached library defined differently
than a direct SCSI attached library?
No. Just use the address that the host operating system assigns it.
Will the fiber attached have an address similar to a SCSI attached
(i.e.. device=lb0.0.0.0)?
ITSM Ver, 5.2.6 on Win2K platform.
In a cached disk subsystem, the write overhead of RAID 5 can be negated.
Hence the reason if a cache battery dies, write through cache mode is
enabled, as cache may not be able to be destaged in the event of a power
failure- this will have a massive effect on write wait time on the host.
Won't hurt a thing if you turn it on. TSM doesn't know it's happening,
so it has no impact on TSM operations.
IF you have compression turned on at your TSM client, the data is
already compressed, and the tape drive probably won't be able to
compress it any more. In fact, there are SOME cases
You can turn on compression in the TSM clients (at TSM 5.3 clients you
can use AES128 encryption, and with the TSM 5.3 server you can turn on
encryption for TDP clients). But you must be VERY VERY CAREFUL with key
management; if you lose the keys, you're toast and will NEVER get the
data back.

Hi Everybody,
I'm currently planning an upgrade of TSM 5.1.6 on AIX 4.3.3 to TSM 5.3 on AIX
5.2 . Since this will be an inplace upgrade on the same server, is TSM 5.1.6
supported on AIX 5.2 ? I know that IBM does not support 5.1.6 , but I have a
very tight upgrade window and need to do the

FWIW, I'm currently running TSM 5.1.6.3 on AIX 5.3 64-bit with no
apparent problems. We went from AIX 5.1 to AIX 5.3 in August. I'm in the
process of working out a simplified test environment for TSM 5.3, with
plans to upgrade next week if all goes well.

Hi,

files are locked and it can't be overwrite and then its stop and don't continue
with the files after that.

Hello TSM Users,
My TSM server recently stops working and my guess is hardware issue
because I am getting SCSI error messages. It is possible that it can be
software issue as well but not sure. Your help greatly appreciated.

This is kind of a bare metal recovery, a feature not implemented by
TSM without third party components.
You may try to create a live CD with TSM BA client embedded (or plug
hard disk on another machine), mount the partition you want to restore
of the original hard disk, and restore to the mount

That's easily looked up via the TSM Support Page,
http://www.ibm.com/software/sysmgmt/products/support/
IBMTivoliStorageManager.html
under Server Requirements.

We are currently running TSM 5.1.6.5 on AIX 5.2 and it works fine.

Hi,
Yeah ... there are few interfaces for
this server ... some to cluster machine and LAN-FREE to TSM server ...
However i checked that there's no failover which can coz the message to
happen.
Well I'll look into the doc the URL
u sent.
Thanks and Warmest Regards,
If you want to BMR your linux system have a look at http://www.mkcdrec.org/
This tool has support for TSM.
I'm going to test it in the near future - if anyone is interested I'll post
my findings.
