We have a setup of TSM 5.5 which stores backups and Archives of GPFS.TSM
server is one of the node in GPFS cluster and iam backing up the data on SAN
where GPFS volumes are
Accessible locally.
What is the procedure to integrate TSM with GPFS to increase backup
performance.

there is a GPFS-tool called mmbackup. it creates a list of modified files and
commit this list to the tsm
client. the tsm client will do a selective backup of these files / folders.

The one limitation of mmbackup is that you cannot assign non-default
management class to files. If you want to do that, you need to do
regular incrementals through dsmc. Also, if you're not running the
latest patch level of GPFS 3.2.1 mmbackup will fail if you have any
unlinked file sets in
It's not just Win2008, the new naming convention for SystemState started
at the 5.5 client, so you'll see it for Win2K3 as well. I think this
will get it..

that it gets abysmal performance unless you turn off Direct IO in
TSM. See other posts for that. It is technically possible, but with
the iSCSI limitation you might not want to use RMD Raw Device

Were you running ExtendedFabric on the old switch? If so, is it setup on
the new switch ports for the ISL's over the dwdm?
Check for port errors on the vtl connection and isl links.

My plan was to side step the RDMs and use the native windows ISCSI initiator.
I have no VM experience or windows based TSM server experience. All my existing
sites are AIX.
Any info is appreciated. I do plan on looking into this in detail, just trying
to save myself a little time.
