Hi,

owner ship? (just to confirm).
What about performing an audit library on the client?
Doing this audit on the library client will sync its status about
volumes in use with the library manager thus freeing this already

We had similar issues sometime ago now, when we had non IBM

We have since removed all non IBM carts especially EMTEC and moved the

Boris,
Officially, Data Protection for SQL only supports
the x64 version while running on an x64 operating system and
the x32 version while running on an x64 operating system.
I am still trying to understand why you would want to
run SQL Server 32-bit on a 64-bit OS.
Thanks,
Del
We will be upgrading our server and clients to tsm server version. Has
anyone experienced any issues with it or should watch out for?

Hi Del,
I can see a point in that. Maybe there is a Application that only works with
SQL 32-bit?

Hi Del and Christian,
thanks for your answers. I can't answer why our dba admins uses the 32 bit
database on the 64 bit operating system. I'm only the TSM admin. I will ask
them.

Boris

We have been running 5.5.0.3 for a long time with no issues.
However there is a pretty critical problem with 5.5.0.x that is resolved
in 5.5.1 so it is suggested you go to that level after upgrading to base
5.5 (you did not say what level you are coming from).
Hi,
Do not upgrade to 5.5.0 because you got critical issues in 5.5.0
We have upgrade many servers to 5.5.1 and that works much better so upgrade to
5.5.1.

Of Schneider,
Hi,
One of our two TSM servers hit with TSM table locking at 5.5.0 with
performing a long running restore. We upgraded to 5.5.1 and have been in
a steady state since.
TSM OS AIX, 5.3
Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition 5.5.1.0 currently
However, our second TSM server which backs up to
Yes, use YOUR admin id, replacing the one that pops up by default.
Never use the server id that comes up. IF you change the password for
the server's ID then you'll have to do so by re-running dsmc and setting
the password there, then restarting all the dsmc processes on the
client.

Howard,
But resourceutilization is 4 now. It should give me fewer mount
points, not more. So why I am overrunning the client's maximum mount
points of 2 when resourceutilization is 4?
The reason I can't just increase the client's maximum mount
points until the message goes away
It's late and it's long ago, but I seem to remember something about
these mount point and resourceutil things in the line of:
Resource 4, # mountpoint
- 1 admin session
- 1 mountpoint for diskpools
- 2 mountpoint max for tape mounts
So in you case, going directly to tape, you will get a max of 3
I did a full DB backup on my old AIX server. I tried to restore this DB backup
on Linux, but it doesn't work. IBM says this is not supported. They told me to
do a server export / import.
I setup a server to server export / import but I can't seem to get my storage
pools and volhistory to come
Did the storage pool definitions come across, but not connectivity to
the pools themselves?

You are going to run into problems just simply because of hardware
platform changes. The 64bit RS/6000 platform uses a different endian
than the 32/64bit Intel based platforms that you would normally run SUSE
on.
Before you proceed make sure that you'll be able to access the data you
have on
Thanks for your responses!
None of the storage pools definitions came across.
For the import / export I'm connecting over the network. When I did the DB
backup, I was able to read the tape. This is what I was getting trying to do a
DB restore:
ANR8328I 001: LTO volume 000431L3 mounted in
Tell us the exact export command you used.

Export server won't define your stgpools, devclasses, libraries, drives,
etc.. It exports all the things the server needs to manage the clients
the exporting server has.
Make sure you have the space, and then run your export server. By
default, all you'll get is schedules, client definitions and
Ok, now we are getting down to the nitty gritty. Your example
completely contradicts what is in the Performance Guide, which provides
a table which I reproduce below. I hope email doesn't mess up the

Boris,
I have recently setup TDP Backups for SQL 64 bit.
Not sure about SQL x32 on windows x64.
My setup:
TSM B/A Client x64 v5.5.1.0
TSM TDP x64 v5.5.0.0
SQL Server 2005 x64
windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition SP2
Backup Method: Legacy

TSM Administrator
I ran the following commands:
export server toserver=NASCTSM filedata=all
export server toserver=NASCTSM fromdate=10/02/2002 filedata=all
mergefilespaces=yes
I get everything except the storage pools and volhistory. Is there another way
to get this information over to my new server?
Thanks,
Well, now you've confused me, as well...
When I set RESOURCEUTILIZATION 10, I get 8 sessions, but 4 are producers and
4 are consumers - so how did you get 8 tape mounts?

Hmmm
I'm willing to admit I may be talking through my hat here but...
Doesn't the VCB backup process use PROXYNODE? So then all the backups are
funnelled through the one node, even though they have the id of another,
and so the MAXNUMMP of that node would be the limit?
Steve.

The RESOURCEUTILIZATION parameter will accept numbers higher than 10, they're
not supported, of course.
