Hi
I use TSM 5.1.0 on AIX 5.1 to backup my clients. When migration, backup to

that scratch tapes are not being assigned to the pool automatically. This
leads to the failure of any of the above said activities saying
Hi ;
Is there a way in TSM V5.1 to know wahat is the appropriate LTO Volume to
use to resrote a specific archive or backup. We have more than 500 LTO
volumes and it's very difficult to know where is the best volume to use.
thank you for your help.
Hi,
I had a similar problem which I resolved yesterday. In my case it had to
do with the maxscratch parameter on my offsite storage pool. Quoting

I've seen in mention on the list a few times that when the TSM's system object backup
runs it will backup the files in system32 every time even if they haven't changeed. I
thought I read somewhere that when backing up the system state an incremental backup
is taken of system32. Of course now
I found that in the TSM client manual it makes special note about the way that it
backs up System and boot files for windows 2003. Here is the text from the manual.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for your response.
You are right, the way the TSM server counts licenses has nothing to do with
what you are required to buy. In TSM V2 and V3 it did, but in V4 and V5
they changed the buying requirements, but didn't much change the server
code.
I understand your frustration
I'm confused about how I should go about changing the configuration of

these with a single 13GB volume.
Normally, I would just create and define the new

That's what I do with my DB, but by defining the new log volume and
adding it, I will be over the 13GB limit until I've removed all the old
volumes. Will TSM let me do that? I guess I could try it and see.

Hi All,
We upgraded our TSM Server (Solaris 9) from 5.1.6.4 to 5.2.2.1 last

I believe you are correct.
But why do you have a requirement to have only 1 log file?
The log is written sequentially, so I don't see that it would hurt you to
have two 6.5 GB logs, instead of one 13GB log...

It's not a requirement, I am just acting on IBM's recommendation to put
the log on a single volume for performance reasons. 2 would still be
better than the 8 I have now.
Thanks!

Since the transactions logs are uniquely named, versioning doesn't apply. So
for the VEREXIST and RETEXTRA parameters don't really matter. Since you'll
only ever have 1 version and it will be the active version which will never
be expired. The transaction logs are expired by the TDP agent by
