The last time I checked, vmfs file systems were not supported by TSM.

Walk thorugh the Setup wizard for one of the newer Windows clients; one of

recommended excludes into the dsm.opt file.
If you are having trouble with directories other than those, perhaps you
could post them back -

This is not something I have explored in a while, but there are some
files/directories that TSM seems to have trouble with, and I'm thinking of
adding some excludes to my client option set for Windows clients. Does anyone
know of an updated list of recommended excludes that has been put out since

We are in the process of migrating from an IBM3584 tape library
with 3592 to another IBM3584 with LTO4. When we first got the LTO4 tape

I'm looking for some ideas for upgrading/replacing my tsm servers and

I have a 7 year old Sun server connected to an IBM 3494 with six 3590 drives
and a Dell 6800 with 22TB of disc connected to a LTO3 library.

Hello,
Is it still hold truth that there is no TSM special agent to backup

because it is opensource and there is no money in it, IBM do not support

That hasn't been updated since 2005. They really need to get this
updated, and working in a supported fashion. I know this would help a
lot of folks out.

I've got customers using both LTO4 and 3592 (now called TS1120) drives.
Both sets of customers are happy.
The TS1120 drives are fabulous - they are fast and have a really high duty
cycle. 3592 cartrdiges are more durable than the LTO4's.
The LTO4 drives are also excellent for the price.

Read the mysql admin guide; they explain how to do backups.
In 99% of cases, no special agent is necessary because the mysql data bases
are actually comprised of 4 (I think) flat files each. They back up just
fine as flat files, and you can restore them as flat files.

Yes, but the pipe didn't change anyway, so all the information are still
valid. I agree we should have an official TSM for MySQL.

Hence the question. As a customer who is not a business partner, or

involved with this. And, considering the time something like this might
take up, it would be hard to justify to the bosses.

I have the same issue, AIX 5.3 TSM 5.4.1.0, TS3500, LTO2 but only on a

Some temp errors show in the AIX error log, but only for this drive. The

I'm disappointed with a lack of a real TSM MySQL client; I think the
arguments that MySQL is a mediocre database are long in the tooth, and
there are a lot of real commercial operations that are backed by
MySQL. No it's not Oracle. But it is sufficient for 80% of
applications.

I have both technology. I was using both 3590 and 3592 in a 3494
library and have since move to a 3584 library with 3592 and LTO4.
Performance wise the LTO4 are a screamer in backup while the 3592
definitely are more rugged. 800 GB does not sound like a lot of data
per night.

Yes, your usage scenarios look correct to me (and yes, I agree the book

Have you looked into ndmp from the filer to your tsm server? If you

Yes, files larger than 2 GB are backed up individually when you have subfile
backup turned on.
However (don't shoot the messenger here), I'll save you some time and
confusion by pointing out that you aren't going to get any significant
benefit from implementing subfile on a large file server.
