Hello Everybody,
Finally I have fixed problem with Waiting for storage media.
It was quite simple problem, but it was very difficult to understand what
source of problem is.
I have specified thin format during disk allocation for data store. It has to
be thick format for disks in VDR appliance,
Good morning,
on a (real big!) x86_64 machine, with freshly installed SuSE SLES 10.3,
scanning a mere ~500k files (and typically saving 10,000 per run),
dsmc has been found to consume about 1.3 GByte of virtual memory
per single run. This is about tenfold from what you'd expect ...
And even
Hi,
The format of a device class is set to drive and query drive shows the
read and write format is 3592C,3592. The question is when does TSM uses
the compressed format? In a TSM 5.3 system, almost all volumes are 300GB (q
vol) except one of them. I cannot explain why TSM have not treated this one
Hi,
1. - Format 3592C/drive uses drive compression: show libr ( if you want to
check
it )
2.-Compressed files are not compressed twice

DRive output are the values that can be specified with the FORMAT parameter of
the device class definition: they report capabilities, not what is in force at
the moment. Your Devclass definition governs actual I/O
Thanks Richard,
What happens to existing volumes if I change the devclass format to
compressed? I mean, should TSM update the estimated capacity of volumes?
Regards
Nothing happens to existing volumes: they remain as readable and writable as
they always have been. TSM *should* have been writing the volumes to the
maximal capabilities of the tape drive technology; and the tape drive senses
the format used for partially written volumes so as to continue
I was wondering if there is a way to increase the capacity of the storage
pool without adding volumes. I thought changing devclass format to
compressed will affect the existing volume capacities and I could gain lots
of space by reclamation.
What I conclude from your post is that only for new
Specifying 3592C would be a change from your DRIVES specification, but it does
not necessarily represent any change over how TSM has been writing data to tape
for you: a spec of DRIVE *should* use compression. Specifying 3592C explicitly
tells TSM what you want, with no ambiguities or
Very nice explanation,
Thanks you

Hi All,
If I wanted to grant authority to a client to be able to perform BACKUP
and Restores Only using the Client Gui for their nodes only would the
following be correct?
grant authority susan class=node node=wooder1
or
grant authority susan class=node authority=owner node=wooder1

Hi,
What do sustained data rate and burst transfer rate mean? I appreciate
your explanation or any reference.
Thanks
Burst rate refers to the transfer of data which the hardware component happens
to have immediately at hand, as in a cache buffer.
Sustained rate refers to the long-term average where the hardware has to also
get data by seeking to a position on the medium and reading from it, which
takes much
Essentially they are what they say. 'Sustained data rate' reflects more
or less the average data rate over a period of time. Different systems
compute it slightly differently (different average periods) but it's
essentially what you can expect to be the supported average amount of data
going
I have upgraded my TSM Server to V6.2.1 from 5.4.5.1 on AIX 5.3. The question I
have is has anyone had a problem with the Deployment portion of TSM. I am
trying to deploy TSM V6.2.1 to WIndows Clients which run 2003, 2008. I had
submitted a ticket to support and they said to delete the adsm.sys
I have noticed that within the Windows Services that are running - java.exe
seems to be the cause most of the time when the old ISC 6.0.1.1 stopped
working. Since I couldn't end the process I had to reboot the windows server.
Added AIX 5300-ML11-02 which was the right O/S maintenance level to be at.

Thank you Mr. Sims. Due to various security options things have been locked
down regarding whether or not the TSM Server can communicate with the TSM
Client. Our setup isn't so big so going to each windows client isn't a biggie,
but since we had purchased V6.2.1 thought that the option to push
Thank you, Del! That was what we'd guessed, and it is nice to know for

the user there was no answer..
Thanks again,

It´s not. CentOS is notbut as it´s RH Enterprise based, usually works

tcp/ip.
Are there folks here who have implemented this using a third party that
would host the storage. If you could share the details it will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
You can't download drivers from FTP. Just a zillion readme files.
You can use Fix Central http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/ for
download drivers.

It looks you have lost saved password. Try to start dsmc or GUI on node without
modifying dsm.opt and provide password ones. Maybe it will help to resolve your
problem.

Maybe I do not understand your request, but there is no special setup for image
backups in GUI.
You need only to specify SNAPSHOTPROVIDERIMAGE:
1) by adding SNAPSHOTPROVIDERIMAGE VSS into dsm.opt;
2) or by specifying it in backup command like backup image D:
-snapshotproviderimage=vss
