Had plenty of memory (2gb) and a reasonable amount of disk. However, performance even
with a gigabit ethernet was less than adequate.

Looks like you have hit a 4gb limit. I forget the parm, but if you are using newfs or
mkfs to create database volumes, there is largefiles (I think) which allows file
sizes above 4gb.
Using solaris 8 here, and have two db volumes of 6gb each. Works fine.

In the command-line admin client, q node * f=d produces a more lenier vertical

However, when run from a shell script, a very tabular listing is produced.

I would use the suggestion of redirecting the destination of your storage pools to the
new devclass for 3592s.
Another option is to create the new pools as orvile sugested, directing all new data
there.
Also, at this point change the reclaim stgpool for your old 9840 pools to the new
pool.

using format, also all permissions look the same for the one being used,
(/dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0) and new one, (/dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s1).

How about setting reclamation to 0, with the reclaim pool set to the new pool.
Will take some time, but works like a champ.
If you don't mind waiting a while, just set the reclaim stgpool to the new
pool, and let natural reclamation take its course.

If that is the case, you can't delete it. If you really must, then do
another db backup then you will be able to delete.

Our pc support folks replaced the c: drive on an xp machine. This meant a
reinstalation of windows xp.
Then they installed the tsm client v5.4.2.
I watched them go through the scheduler setup, and all looked ok.

caused me to handle offsite volumes as follows.
Keep the reclaim value set at 100%. Check every few days for number of tapes

I would suggest another approach to the problem.
Dsmc -id=xx -pa=xxx -dataonly query output
Where query is a file containing your sql text and output is where you
want the output to go.
I use this approach and consequently don't have to strip headers or
trailers.

My understanding is that the 3592 drives will be connected via an ibm
2109 fiber switch to a 2319 fiber card in the z800 mainframe.

Can I convert as follows:
1. mark all volumes in use read-only
2. allow scratches to be used as tsm sees fit.
3. do reclamation to move onto

Tried doing reclamation on my onsite pool bigtape this morning.
All worked through yesterday, but this morning got message anr1086w
insufficient space in storage pool.
Below is a script of the last reclamation, with stgpool definition, scratch
counts and volume
