Hi all,
I want to do an audit on my database because I've got a problem of throwing away
an disk volume.
How can I find out how many entries i've got in my database, so I know how many
entries the audit must do ?
When I know this I can predict how long the audit will last (!!!)
Thanx

Hi All,
if I make a backup of the TSM database the databasetape is moved to a DRM

How can I do that. Remove the license is not enough..

Hi all,
I started to backup my data via encryption from an AIX system via the
following extra lines in the dsm.sys file;
encryptkey save
encryptiontype
What you also could do is remove the encryption password from the
registry and try to restore some data previously backupped. TSM should
then ask for an encryption password before you can continue

couldn't get encryption to work because of this.
Configuring this feature must be done by IBM, so that's where we waiting

Hi Lawrence,
I don't know why, but I had the same output in several versions of TSM. You just have
to wait till the audit compleets, wich can be a long time.
I hope this take some worries away.

Hi Otto,
we have got the same problem over here, and the only difference in the nodes I got
info from and those I can't find is the level of the TSM clients. I know this was a
problem in some client versions and should be solved in versien 5.1 and up.

Hi Eric,
did you make a devconfig and volhist backup after the DB backup and before the DB
restore?
- backup devconfig
- backup volhist
If you didn't, startup TSM (if you still can !!) and make those backups. Then the
restore will succeed.

I support Eric's statement for 100%. We liked the admin GUI much more then the
browser, but we had to stop because TSM crashed several times when using this GUI.
I hope IBM will port this tool to JAVA and make many people happy.

We use TSMManager which is an excellent tool for query the database and
produce graphic stats for the managers.
You could download a 30 day trail or buy the product (it's not that

Hi Richard,
We backup our Oracle database via two channels so the data is split onto
two different tapes. Therefore we can use two channel restores.
Four channel restore doesn't make any sense as the other two extra
channels can't mount the tapes which are already in use by the first two

Hi Michael,
I have a similar environment and created two RAID 0 lun's of 2 disks

I'm more interested in what segment size people use on the disks and if
a certain pp size is recommended for a volume group under AIX.
Good luck

Got nothing to do with Atape driver. I posted about these issues on

Either roll back to AIX6 TL4 or update to AIX7
Hi Eric,
What's holding you back from upgrading to version 6?
Maybe the upgrade will take as long as unloading/loading but you're in a
better position than staying on 5.5.
