It's been reported here that the restore time in the v8.1 CLIENT is much
improved over v7 so I would recommend that one for the client. I am not sure
the server version makes a difference for this situation.

You noted that your back end will be all tape; be sure you read the
requirements for tape section in the VE book. The metadata has to be
split out and stay on disk.
This is probably worth highlighting. TSM for VE writes control data to the
Management Class defined by the Vmctlmc client
Don't know about Windows, but since it is an IBM device, on AIX you use Atape
and on Linux you use lintape instead of the TSM drivers. So for unix, the

This is a classic symptom of a firewall blocking the cad port. It works the
first time because the cad initiated the session and then the tsm server times
out the next time it reaches out to the client because the firewall is
blocking. So you have to use webports to designate what port cad is

Is doing a TSM DB backup/restore the only way to remove a TSM DB directory in
V6.2?

I'm confused. A backup stg copies data from a primary TSM storage pool (tape
in your case) to a copy TSM storage pool (again tape). During this process
there should not be any N-Series involvement. It strictly a TSM tape to tape
function. What am I missing?
