The only role for mvs that tsm can play, at least to my limited knowledge, is
to back up the unix oe file system. And the tsm server does not have to be on
the mainframe.

If you are using library controlled cleaning then you do not need a cleaning
tape assigned to each logical library. As we are using the ALMS option we are
using library cleaning. We also are using netapp ndmp backups and that also
calls for library controlled cleaning.

For more information on the library errors you can look at three (or four
)places if you have the latest library firmware. One less if you do not.
With the latest firmware level the web interface to the library will let you
view the library error log.
