Re: Help Needed in Sorting and Updating the List of Perl Mailing Lists
Hi everyone, I am sorry I write only now but I was busy. So I was the one who copied the data and I am sorry I did not ask you Elaine first to access the database. Guys please, let's not play the blaming game. That does not lead to any good place. If I can get access to the database I might be able to update the data a bit. If I can get the data dump I am ok with hosting the site assuming both you Elaine and Ask and Robert and whoever else has a say in it agree. AFAIK both lists.perl.org and lists.cpan.org show the same content but currently they point to different IP addresses. regards Gabor On Tue, May 12, 2009 at 2:45 AM, Elaine Ashton eash...@mac.com wrote: On May 11, 2009, at 6:51 PM, Bill Ward wrote: I think the blame game is silly here - we should be looking for solutions moving forward, not who's fault things are. Oh, getting upbraided for having a baby and not having time to read email is amusement I could only get from perl. :) I laid out the options and yes, I've given accounts to people before and I can still if there are interested parties. e.

I was doing a regular update for http://perl-begin.org/ when I updated http://perl-begin.org/mailing-lists/ and noticed that it still linked to the old Mailing lists' database at list.cpan.org. Now I learned on the CPAN Testers mailing list that Gabor started creating a better list here: Well, nobody asked for the data nor did anyone ever offer updates. I've maintained for quite some time that it should be tied to the list configuration from the perl.org listserv, but that never happened. I gave an account to someone a long while back for such work but they didn't do the work they offered to do. I guess it wouldn't be perl if 10 websites containing slightly different information weren't around but you can have the mysql tables or dumps if you want them. e.

You probably aren't in the middle of a trans-con move, starting a new job, etc in addition to the baby. I mean, sure, why shouldn't I have spent what precious little time I had to myself scanning all the perl mailing lists for people suddenly taking an interest in stuff I did years ago? That's what my husband is for. I'm getting old and in a community as generally thankless as this one is, you'll have to try a little harder at guilting me over really being too busy at the time to have noticed. My name was mentioned and my husband is also pretty easy to find. Again, people just tend to complain as it's easier than focusing on the solution. If someone wants the data, I've offered the tables. If you have a better site, it can be hosted where the old one is or I'm sure we reassign the DNS. It's really not worth looking at my date book for how I spent my time in early 2007. e.
