I know it's not normal, but I use a couple of Mac servers for DNS. They're very easy to deploy and manage, and very little effort to make them and keep them redundant. When I say berry little, I mean it's a single check box. They are more reliable than any other server I have. Thank you, Brett

Something handy I keep is a Planet GT-905A. 10/100/1G copper port and an SFP slot, so whatever 1G optic you want. Pretty much a 2-port VLAN capable managed switch in a media converter size package. Operating temp is rated 0-50C though. I was thinking about trying some of these for AE FTTH
