Re: [AFMUG] Linktechs POE

2016-12-20 Thread Kurt Fankhauser
I have bought two of these linktech things. They do work. My first one was
the 15watt version which i was able to power anything with from 450SM's to
Mimosa C5's, (requires 48v adapter thing). The AP usually takes a little
while to boot up before it starts to bridge traffic. I usually would power
it on when i pulled into customer driveway and then by the time i got ready
to test signal it was fully booted up and i switch the POE on and plug it
into radio. I killed that 15 watt one by trying to power a Ignitenet radio
that accepts power on all 4 pairs. That made the ethernet port die and i
think its because the internal circuitry cant handle power backfeeding from
the orange/green wires. So then i bought another one which is the 7 or 8
watt version (they were out of stock of the 15 watt one) and that one works
as expected except on 450 SM's i can only power the 2.4/5ghz radios.
3.65ghz sm draws to much power and wont work on it. Also when using 2.4ghz
FSK sms on site surveys the internal wifi makes alot of 2.4ghz noise so i
get weird results when trying to do site surveys on the 2.4 FSK. Like self
interference.

Yeah, tried that. Whatever voltage you feed into the USB comes out of the
POE. Most USB batteries are 5v.

Re: [AFMUG] Linktechs POE

2016-12-15 Thread Mathew Howard
It upconverts if you power it via the USB port, I don't remember what the
voltage is off hand, but I know it works fine with old airmax and ePMP
radios, and 5v wouldn't turn those on. They don't put out enough current to
power a PMP450 SM, however.

I did extensive testing with the AirGateway Installer Pro...and found that it
only outputs the voltage that you put into it. There is no upconverter. ie.
if you put in 5v you get out 5v on POE (which will power nothing). If you put
in 18v you get out 18v...which will not power AC gear. If you use a 20v drill
battery it will power AC gear...but only on a full charge, as they drop to 18v
pretty quickly and then the AC radios just reboot and reboot and reboot. We
use the AG Installer Pros in our modified DeWalt flashlights, but I had no luck
using any type of battery pack.

Re: [AFMUG] Linktechs POE

2016-12-15 Thread Jeremy
I did extensive testing with the AirGateway Installer Pro...and found that
it only outputs the voltage that you put into it. There is no upconverter.
ie. if you put in 5v you get out 5v on POE (which will power nothing). If
you put in 18v you get out 18v...which will not power AC gear. If you use
a 20v drill battery it will power AC gear...but only on a full charge, as
they drop to 18v pretty quickly and then the AC radios just reboot and
reboot and reboot. We use the AG Installer Pros in our modified DeWalt
flashlights, but I had no luck using any type of battery pack.

2016-12-15 Thread Jason Wilson
I have one and love it. Works great to set up equipment with out dragging
cable all over the place. For those that cannot get power out if the rj45.
There is a small black switch next to the port. That should get it working.
There is no detection in it so when you plug something in to it with the
power on ensure it can take the power or the smoke might get let out.

We have used the Italian one. They do work, but as noted, they can be
fragile. If your techs are ham-handed, abuse will shorten their life.

Re: [AFMUG] Linktechs POE

2016-12-15 Thread Dennis Burgess
Please contact us to see if we can help with them. There is a “POE OFF”
switch, surprised how many people get it turned off and can’t find it ☺ As far
as logging into a AIRGateway, its just a bridge, so should not be ANYTHING.
Its not a router, just a dumb bridge, get DHCP from your CPE, and login that’s
it ☺

99% of the time should be use it out of the box, no configuration necessary,

The idea was to power both the gateway and the installation radio from
the same battery and use the wifi for a tetherless connection.

Anker makes some good ones.

Wait, why were you trying to power multiple things off of one? It's
made for radio alignment / installation.

we've used a couple of the italian variant (we purchased from italy)
seem a bit fragile, I have a couple on my desk..(failed, likely dropped)
we use them primarily for cambium equipment.
