Is this meant to simply be a never-ending chain of timing scam
opportunities?

I'd argue that this is probably a bad idea. I've ended up semi-ruining
my life before now by staying up until odd hours to be able to pull off
a timing scam. (I remember one time in BlogNomic where, after pulling
off or at least attempting a timing scam, I was sprinting to be able to
catch the last bus home. Luckily, I got there in time.)

Timing scams can be fun once in a while, but they're one of the few
mechanics that can cause Real Life trouble if you overdo them.
