[all-audio] Trying to find a stream URL

2024-01-14 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi all,

I am wanting to find the direct URL to an audio stream which I can bookmark
in Winamp. A Google search mentions accessing the Inspect dialog, but I
still can't find what I want.

The link to the site is

https://www.connectfm.au/

Open the listen live popup and start the stream playing in the online
player.

It would be much appreciated if someone can locate the direct URL for me.

Thanks very much,

Barry Chapman

Okay...I've opened preferences, but am finding everything but what I want to
find, which is General Preferences! The problem I have with Winamp's
Preferences are those doggone treeviews (I just get lost) so again...exactly
what are the steps to getting to General Preferences in Winamp?
Thanks for your patience!

In general preferences, tab to check for updates and uncheck it. I have it

Thanks Tim. I did manage to find a Winamp version and installed it. It works
well if I set the fader to 80% and have ISP checked. The output level
overall is higher than that for Audiostocker, but that is not a problem.

You can download the new Winamp from the following link, but there is no

Yes, there is something in winamp that is supposed to do what you described,
but it is not designed for windows 10. It may work, but I don't believe it
does. In any case, it's always better to do things at the operating system
level, if you can.

"music player" should be one of the choices in that list. It's not a list you
can arrow through; unfortunately you have to use tab and shift tab. Same goes
for the list that pops up once you activate the "music player" button.

Hey guys.

There is, I think, a much more efficient way of doing this.
Press windows key + I to open settings. Type "default" into the search box and
hit enter. Now you will see a series of buttons pertaining to different types
of files. Activate "music player" and select from the popup tat appears the
application that you want to use, in this case, winamp.
You can do the same for video files if you want, though winamp isn't very
video-capable.

To make Win amp the default player:

1. Open a folder which contains an audio file and highlight it.
2. Right Windows key.
3. scroll down till you hear: Open with has sub-menu and hit entre"
4. Scroll down till you hear: Use another app and hit entre.
5. Select Winamp from the menu.
6. Scroll down to: Always use this app to open this type of file and hit

You will need to repeat the process for each audio file type. EG: MP3/Wav.

Re: [all-audio] line to phono level adaptor?

That is what I said. You can use one or the other, but not both at once. If
you want to be able to switch between rather than mix inputs for one
channel, you are better off buying a switch box which you can connect to
your mixer. Ones with three stereo RCA inputs to one stereo RCA output are
readily available.

I can, as there is a switch for phono or line on each channel, and each has
2 sets of sockets, one for line, and the other set for phono.

Hi Simon,

Many mixers have alternative microphone and line or phono and line inputs
for some channels. What is usually the case is that you can use one or the
other, but not both together. So if you have a four channel mixer, you
probably can't use both the line input and phono input on the same channel.

Therefore, what you want to do probably wouldn't work.

I have a nice mixer, that has 4 channels which have both line and phono

something that would let me use line level sources on the phono inputs, it
would mean that I would have 8 sets of inputs available, rather than just 4,
hope that makes sense.

so, remain at the lower level for the length of the selection, then fade up
again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Barry Chapman

Re: [all-audio] CDEX

2020-06-08 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi Howard,

When in CDEX, press F4. Arrow up or down to Encoders. Tab and you will come to
options for the bit rate, VBR etc. The time it takes to rip might have
something to do with your quality setting which you will come to if you keep
tabbing. The higher the quality setting, the longer it will take. I set mine to
high.

Thanks, guys, for all your help. But now:
This thing takes from 20 to 30 minutes to rip a 45 minute CD. It used
to work a lot faster when I did it on my XP machine. Have I got
something set wrong? And I'd like to rip at a fixed rate of 128, but
it's giving me a variable bit rate. How can I fix that?

Hi Andy,

If you heard them converting then you don't need to press anything else.

By default, I think the files are placed in the CDEX folder in Program
Files. To find out where, when in CDEX, press F4. Arrow up or down to
Directories & files and tab 3 times. You should hear the directory where the
files are. This can be changed.

If the titles are 01-AudioTrack 01.mp3 etc, then you need to configure CDEX
to look up the titles database. Of course, it might not have that particular
CD.

I wish to keep this CD in the best of nick, though wish to listen to it on

I've download a programme called CDEX and tried to convert the CD into Wav

To get to the Winamp disk writer plugin:

1. Launch Winamp and open the file you wish to convert.
2. Press v to stop it playing.
3. Press ctrl+p for Winamp preferences.
4. Up or down arrow to plugins. If it is closed, press right arrow to open it.
5. Down arrow to output.
6. Press tab twice. You will probably be on Nullsoft DirectSound Output.
7. Down arrow to Nullsoft Disk Writer and press enter.
8. Press x and the file will be converted to wav rather than playing. By
default, the converted file will be in your music folder under users and your
name with a number such as 01 at the start. This can be changed in the plugin

9. Follow the steps above again to set the output plugin back to Nullsoft

Re: [all-audio] Trying To Convert File To MP3

2020-06-03 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi Tom,

This can be changed in the plugin
configuration.
9. Follow the steps above again to set the output plugin back to Nullsoft
DirectSound Output. Otherwise, files will continue to be copied rather than
played.

If you need any more detail, please let me know.

Regards,
Barry Chapman

If it's as simple as using this Winamp Disk Writer to convert it to WAV; then
converting that Wav file to an MP3, then I should be able to do what I want to
do, which is to take the part of the file that my friend doesn't need away.
First, I need to know more about this Winamp Disk Writer Output plugin!

Well Now: Thanks guys. I took out the Winamp I was using (5.3

The volume contol is checked but it still doesn't work. Maybe I should

the stop and pause does not fade. I used to get that and volume control

I'm trying to get winamp to play through all the mp3 files one after
the other and not keep repeating the currently playing mp3 in the playlist.

What I want is all the mp3 files to play in order that they are listed
and when it reaches the last mp3 file it will repeat playing the entire
playlist over again.

I found the keyboard command R to turn repeat on/off but that is only
either repeating the currently playing track/mp3 file in the playlist
or it will only play the currently playing mp3 file from the play and
ends once the cut is finished.

Is there a keyboard command that I'm missing? Or, is there a command to
just repeat the entire m3u playlist file?

Also, is the version of Winamp 5.8 Build 3660 still in beta and does
anyone know when the final release will be available?

thanks for all your help in advance.

Re: [all-audio] playlist maker

2019-02-20 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi Tim,

Create a batch file in Notepad or another text editor. You could call it
playlist.bat

If, for example, you want the playlist to include all MP3 files on your C:
drive, type or copy the following to the file.

dir/s/b "c:\*.mp3">c:\playlist.m3u

When you run the batch file, which you can do by locating it with Windows
Explorer and pressing enter on it, the paths and filenames of all MP3 files
on your C: drive will be written to c:\playlist.m3u. You can then open
playlist.m3u in your preferred media player.

If you wish to add, delete or re-order files, you can do this in Notepad or
another text editor.

Say then you only wanted MP3 files on your C: drive in the folders Pop Music
and Country Music including sub-folders, you could modify the code as
follows:

dir/s/b "c:\Pop Music\*.mp3">c:\playlist.m3u
dir/s/b "c:\Country Music\*.mp3">>c:\playlist.m3u

Note that the second line has two greater than signs so that it is appended
to the file rather than over-writing it.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Barry Chapman

Thanks. It has been so long since I did that I forgot how. Could you
remind me, barry?
Alternatively, you can use the dir command line function in Windows to
create a list of files which you can save to a .m3u file.

Re: [all-audio] playlist maker

2019-02-17 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi Tim,

It depends on what you mean by a certain order. In Winamp, you can load an
entire folder of songs and create a playlist within the playlist editor
which you can output to a .m3u file. You can also move files up and down
within the editor. If you are wanting to use attributes within the ID3 tag
such as genre, I don't think you can do that within Winamp.

Alternatively, you can use the dir command line function in Windows to
create a list of files which you can save to a .m3u file.

I don’t know whether the below eMail was particularly useful given that the
question was asked of VLC and not Winamp.
I do of course use VLC and I do know that VLC has a Bookmarking feature but
I’ve never used it thus I don’t know the extent of the function nor its
capabilities - I don’t listen to Audio books in this way and if I do then
they’re divided into tracks so that’s my bookmarking -.
But in all events, give the function a try and if there’s anything amiss or if
you’d like to see some functionality added then drop the team at VLC a line.

different. Does anyone know of a software that will even them out--on

I'll be using winamp to play them.

Thanks, anybody.

Re: [all-audio] Differences between Winamp and VLC?

2018-10-06 Thread Barry Chapman
Well why then would the keys I mentioned be shown in the playback dropdown
menu? Very strange. Also, with the keys you mentioned, which I worked out
anyway, how does one stop a currently playing song then start it again from the
beginning? Pressing p starts the previous track playing while n starts the next
track. Also, is there a way when pressing n of stopping at the end of a
playlist rather than recycling back to the beginning? And is there a way of
moving from track to track without them actually playing? These are all things
I can and need to do in Winamp.

That’s because you’re issuing the wrong keystrokes.
S stops.
P or spacebar plays or pause.
N is next track.
P is previous track.
R is Random on/off

2018-10-06 Thread Barry Chapman
With all this talk about VLC, I decided to give it a try, but I can't get most
of the keyboard shortcuts shown in the menus to work. For example, alt+p
doesn't play, alt+s doesn't stop, alt+j doesn't jump forward and alt+k doesn't
jump backward.

I worked out that p by itself plays and s by itself stops, but if I stop a
track and want to start it again, I need to press n for next followed by p,
otherwise it will play the previous track.

I know I am a novice user, so it probably isn't fair to judge a program on
first impressions, but I don't find VLC to be very intuitive. I acknowledge
that Winamp is not perfect, but I will stick with it for now.
