General Preferences includes everything prior to skins such as File Types,

Firstly MushroomFM streams using the content type audio/aacp. Most, if not
all of the others use audio/mpeg. Perhaps Total Recorder does not recognise
AAC+

If the original plays in Winamp, have you tried converting it to Wav using the
Winamp Disk Writer output plugin. That works for me. You can then convert the
wav to mp3 with Switch.
