document to be attached has a number of autoshapes attached, used import fine in
OO320, fails in OO330-m2 and at least DEV300-m84. There are 3 shapes in the doc,
a Rectangle, Oval Smiley, only the Rectangle seems to be imported

So, question is, do we really need to add a fix that has vanished in newer
Excel versions?
Works at least in MSO2003, I don't have MSO2007 to test with, regardless I don't
think most customers are on MSO2007, I would say mostly they are on earlier
versions and want to move to openoffice ( and expect the best fidelity possible
) Mostly I would agree supporting stuff that no longer works in later versions
is a good idea but in this case the bug is serious enough ( it breaks macro
bindings for controls ) that going the extra mile is worth it ( btw I have come
across this 3 separate times from different customer documents ) Up to you if
you want to reject the patch

Sometimes there can be missing codenames in an excel document ( at least one
customer document we have exhibits this behaviour ) I unfortunately cannot
attach the document ( confidential ) and also attempting to 'strip' the document
effectively repairs the problem :-(. Side effects are the missing module ( e.g.
a missing symbol ) and also the sheet-codename association is skewed

Patch to be attached

Sometimes in excel you will see a name of a control that is not the same as what
is in the binary format. In that case the names seems to be overridden by
attributes specific in the module preamble ( e.g. the section containing the
attributes ) Probably this is the specific codename which *can* apparently be
different from the control name of a shape/control object ( note: I *never*
succeeded in making the control name / code name different from each other )

sorry no test document either ( confidential ) ... although I think it may be
possible to get rid of any sensitive data in this case ( at least I will try )

I just noticed the comment from Thu Jun 18 14:40:04 + 2009 ( the mail
notification never came or got spaminated or something )

Bug seems to be macro related.
Huh? are you kidding? the macro is generated ( via the macro recorder ) I can't
recall if indeed there was something obvious like no information passed via the
generated macro about the selected sheets etc. BUT if so the problem surely is
in the framework/sc code.

OTOH if I had my way the macro recorder would be just removed as it causes more
problems then it ever solves

fyi.I did notice ( probably because I now have a faster machine ) that resize
events are a little 'flaky' In otherwords, sometimes we don't get them. The
implementation is of course wrong ( but worked pretty reliably until I noticed
today ) The 'windowResized' 'borderWidthsChanged' events should ideally just
indicate we are 'in' a resize operation, a mouse release should actually trigger
detection that a resize has occurred ( and fire the handler ).
However iirc it was not possible to catch the mouse events ( I guess they are
consumed elsewhere ( probably by the tabview ) ) It would be nice in future to
fix that ( and remove the Application::PostUserEvent )

I made the latest patch slightly stricter ( I no longer eat the final Exception
in the initialise method ) I hope this isn't too punitive ( COM objects I think
can be a bit flacky )
Also I wasn't able to test the patch :-/ ( but then again only a couple of lines
were changed )

@jl
The function
SAL_CALL IUnknownWrapper_Impl::initialize
[...]
BridgeRuntimeError does not inherit Exception
indeed it does not ( and I didn't notice that ) so I think that is a nice catch,
thanks !!

In this case the functions getDefaultMethodName and getDefaultPropertyName
should throw an exception.

I think I have to disagree a little here ( but only in the implementation )
I think in the case where you do get a String back ITypeInfo::GetDocumentation (
and no VARDESC or FUNCDESC available ) we should just propagate the error from
the initialize method ( I don't think it is necessary to involve the XDefaultxxx
facet in this at all ) is that ok for you?

if so (please let me know) I will regenerate the patch based on the f/b ( but
give me a day or so as I am a little busy )

as discussed, I think the patch is complete, I did some testing and things seem
to work. On linux I touched all the cxx files and built with warnings ( that's
the best I can do, generally building with warning with my gcc version will
break everywhere ) Additionally I added the hooks for vba for word ( but they
are compiled out for now )

I will try to prepare a test document with at least the common event types

if you manage to reproduce this can you try follow the steps from
http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:OOo and attach gdb to get a gdb trace ?

also it is worth trying the 3.2 ( 3.1 is not the current release )

it looks on quick investigation that it is getActiveWorkbook is now the problem,
some quick debugging shows that 'ThisExcelDoc' is still pointing to the document
that was closed. The fallback in vbahelper.cxx::getCurrentExcelDoc(...) doesn't
seem to get invoked ( e.g. a model is still returned ). It very much looks like
we need either to ensure that ThisExcelDoc is pointing to the correct document (
probably needs some tweaking in sfx2 to set ThisExcelDoc where ThisComponent is
set )

I enabled the listener for application script libraries too, this is because
general code has been changed in response to the expectation that the listener
will already take care of adding/deleting module windows. For example in
application basic I just noticed if you rename a module ( using the
tab-right-click-rename ) you end up with 2 tabs/modules ( with the same name
)

I too was concentrating on the rename part, the insert failure is different,
but... still unfortunate that I didn't see the scenario described as I could
have looked at the problem a couple of days ago instead of now :-(, a fix is
about to be attached ( just doing some final checking )

ok, confirmed, basically ( as mentioned in a private mail )
ModuleWindow::RenameModule calls
ScriptDocument_Impl::renameModuleOrDialog which performs the rename by
deleting the old module ( via the LibraryContainer ) and inserting a new
module ( how weird is that [1])?? the delete on the container triggers the
new listener which deletes the ModuleWindow ( the same one that
RenameModule is called on ) sigh Need to look deeper to see what is
the best way out of the trap, worst case we can just disable the
listener for the moment ( and deal with it in a subsequent cws )

[1] not weird at all apparently as XNameContainer and friends don't seem to have
a rename concept

slight change to the path,

-+  aTok.SetCompatible( true );
++  aTok.SetCompatible(
aTok.GetDbl()== 1 );

the previous version was setting the compatibly mode to true ( even for Option
VBASupport 0 )

I really hate this stupid mode with ( a number ) and yes I know I have no-one to
blame but myself

the problem is basically that the parser now take the modules vba mode, the
option vbasupport thingy can change the module's mode, however if you don't
specify the option vbasupport thingy then the previous mode remains in place.
solution is to use the document's library container vba mode as the default ( if
you make any changes to the source ) In otherwords if you don't specify 'Option
VBASupport 0|1' the default mode will be VBA ( in a imported document ) and
Non-VBA in an odf document. In either case the default can be overridden by use
of Option VBSupport

Andreas, have a look at the patch, try it out, if your happy I'll commit it

but, admittedly, of course that's unrelated to the actual problem.
no matter, lets fix it anyway, I've attached another version of the patch,
removed the ifdef'ed bits from vbarange.[ch]xx and move made some methods
virtual to allow ScVbaFormat to get its own DataSet ( or use Range::getDataSet
when subclassed by ScVbaRange ) Also for the lock and unlock I've put in a
fallback to the old propertyset access too ( better safe than sorry ) please
have a look, another pair of eyes is always welcome ( especially for coded in a
hurray bits ) If you are happy with it I will add it to npower13_objectmodules

COM objects can have default members, those members can be properties or
methods, already for vba support in basic we have a concept of default members
default properties ( exposed via XDefaultMethod XDefaultProperty ) this
loosely maps to the COM concept of default members ( note: we have a default
method to fake use of properties that take parameters which of course is an
alien concept for uno )
The automation bridge though cannot tell basic about these default members, the
(tobe attached) patch exposes the missing information about the default member
to basic. This allow constructs like

Sheets(1).Cells(L, 1) = rs.Fields(PartNo#)

to work. In the example line above rs is a ADODB.Recordset object ( returned
from the automation bridge )

Fields(PartNo#) calls a default member called 'Item' ( the collection iterator
method ) with the index PartNo# this returns a 'Field' object which has a
default 'property' value which is assigned to the Range returned from
Sheets(1).Cells(L, 1) - I will attach a sample document containing the above
example. Naturally when running on windows ( without the patch ) the test
document fails miserably, with the patch you should get a message box telling
you looped 9 times and the cells A1:B9 should contain values like those below

A | B
=
20090324 073237 | M0103A

please see the ( to be attached ) example document. It appears that sometimes
the automation bridge doesn't get the named params from the typinfo, in that
case as a fall back we can query the dispatch interface... ( at least for the

1) I do not have Excel installed
I think you probably need it for this test ( otoh maybe I can try to come up
with another test not requiring excel :-/ ) would be best to get this test to
work as it is a stripped down version of a 'real' customer problem
2) The file result.xls was created using the npower14miscfixes OOo build.
Is the content of the file of any importance? The instruction was just to
create a dummy file.
well I did say create a dummy spreadsheet ;-) but hmm yes, actually I don't
know if a spreadsheet created by openoffice will work or not, let me check (
need to reinstall office etc. )

I don't know if a spreadsheet created by openoffice will work or not
seems like it will :-) .. but I still don't think of finding an easy way to
create a new test ( without requiring excel ) can you find a machine with excel
installed to test?

Exception triggered by BASIC in test document
hmmm after getting a windows build over the weekend I tried and it works for me,
2 questions

1. do you have excel installed on the machine you are testing on ( perhaps the
ado components are part of an excel install )
2. is the result.xls really an excel document? I mean I hope it's not just some
random text file with a '.xls' extension ( iiwy I would create that result.xls
from excel to be sure it is in the proper format e.g. no idea if a blank xls
created from openoffice would work )

With VBA executable code turned off i get a message A Scripting Framework
Error... [...]
i really would like to have this
information presented to the user instead of the script URI...).

I understand that, and.. unfortunately it does look like something introduced
in this cws ( I would imagine it would also be *simple* ) to fix, if so I would
suggest we commit the fix to this cws. If not I would suggest creating a new bug
for that ( I don't think it is that serious an issue )

With VBA executable code turned on i end up with a runtime exception in the
line
that begins with con=... - see attached screenshot.
as mentioned on IRC I don't understand the error ( german ) so it's not clear
whether this is a problem with the patch or with some missing com object or
something the test document tries to access ( I remain suspicous of the patch
until I know better )

no true I think, I would suspect ab71 ( and my vba fake event stuff ) is the
real culprit

so, after eventually getting a build for this cws ( after the resync ) and doing
some debugging it seems this is not anything to do with this cws ( or ab71 ),
this is an issue with the excel filter ( not sure since when but I reproduced
with 3.2 rc5 ) What is happening is the filter is importing a macro binding for
a control, even if the filter fails to find the macro it still sets up the
binding. You can recreate the same error by making a macro binding for a button
and afterwards delete the macro. Anyway in imo this is no big problem

Is the test document supposed to work on Linux as well?
no, automation bridge will ( afaik ) only work on winodws ( and in the case of
the test document the automation objects that are accessed are windows sepcific,
so, even if I am wrong, the test document still wouldn't work ) :-)

cd-npower: Noel, I am sure that Frank and I will support as good as possible
to
integrate the CWS.
I appreciate that :-) the changes here are potentially 'invasive' and I do claim
to be nervous of them, so... some sort of reviewing of the changes ( in toolkit
for sure ) would be very very welcome. But like I said in a recent mail to the
api dev list I understand people are very busy regarding getting the time to get
feedback
I await feedback from upstream in order to progress things, so when it will be
integrated is uncertain ( and currently most people are busy with feature freeze
etc )
I include myself in that statement because currently I don't even know if I have
the time to respond to any feedback :-)) ( but hopefully things will calm done
in the next week or 2 )
