Hello,
I have a sound card (VIA 8235) with 4 codecs. I already made all the
necessary driver changes to support them. The issue is how I can allow
existing ALSA applications to take advantage of these extra codecs. How
can the applications be assigned a particular codec for recording or
playback,

There is only one solution at the moment: libaoss (distributed in the
alsa-oss package).
Dear James and ALSA developers,
I should like to add a note of optimism in an otherwise depressing
situation: I can personally verify that the job position (for Linux Audio
on Sun/Ray) was at least formally entered as a requisition to a real
recruiting company. The recuiting company, Y
Is it possible to get the OSS emulation to use the dmix alsa plugin ?
Basically, so one can get multi-open /dev/dsp on a single-open sound
hardware.
Cheers

Orm,
Imagine my surprise when I rejoined Alsa-Dev yesterday for the first time
in at least a month and this was the second email I received?! I am not a
member of the Jack lists anymore, so I did not see anything that was posted
by anyone, including Paul, there. I looked in the archives of this
Hi, I own a Waveterminal 192M soundcard and recently moved to linux. I did
this partly because the sound apps and programming that I found for it seemed
really exciting and partly for the obvious microsoft-rules-the-world stuff.
Realizing that the card isn't supported on linux was a great disapp

hi list+paul again!
just to let you know:
i asked the previous owner of my hdsp 9652 card and he gave me the hint
to use alsa 0.9rc7 plus a patch to ignore the reality and handle the
card as a hdsp+digiface:
*** hdsp.c.orig 2003-05-30 14:01:17.0 +0200
--- hdsp.c 2003-05-30 13:20:12

Orm,
I must say that I think this is the biggest bunch of crap I've seen
on a Linux list in a long time. This list is no place for this sort of
discussion and it's really a low act on your part to publish innuendo
and rumor like it was the truth.
