I'm using Mandrake 9.2 with Kernel 2.4.22 and the alsa 0.9.6drivers.
The installation (compiled from source with gcc3.1.1-2) went fine but I could
hear sound only from one channel.
Raising all the volume controls up to the top, most of the times fixes the
problem, but the

I removed the quick hack from Mathieu and inserted snd_printk's in
snd_usbmidi_disconnect.

Oh, you are right ! I guess that was the reason why there was so little
alsa related stuff in the trace..

I've got an aureal vortext II card (au8830), and while the alsa driver
(versions 1.01, 1.02c and 1.03) produce sound, it seems to get random
