AFAIK, if it's VIA chipset, then you should use via82xx module, if
intelchipset then intel810x module. Sound device configureator (shipped
with alsa) should autodetect it and install needed drivers. Then unmute
;)

Is there a way to get Quakes to work with sound using ALSA 0.9.rc1?
I compiled alsa 0.9.rc1 drivers using:
--with-oss=yes --with-soundcards=fm801 --with-sequencer=yes
In alsa doc it is stated, that Quake 2 will crash with segmentation
fault, when trying access to /dev/dsp
