Re: [Alsa-user] missing input volume controls in MAYA44 USB

2015-05-14 Thread nightmixes
Today I discovered something interesting.
I wondered if the vendor:product id that appears in lsusb may be wrong and
makes fail the Alsa or USB system to identified the device properly.
Let me explain better:
Apparently the ESI Maya-44 USB must have worked in the past, it is a fairly
old and popular soundcard.
What if the device is correctly identified some years ago because I had a
correct ID, but later the manufacturer changed the ID, leaving the device
as unknown or configured as generic.

So I began to search the list of IDs in /var/lib/usbutils/usb.ids to find
the manufacturer ESI and I not find it.
Then, if I search for MAYA and I find this:

0a92 EGO Systems, Inc.
0011 SYS Waveterminal U2A
0021 GIGAPort
0031 GIGAPortAG
0053 Audiotrak Optoplay
0061 U24 Waveterminal
0071 MAYA EX7
0091 Maya 44
00b1 MAYA EX5
1000 MIDI Mate
1010 Romi / O
1020 M4U
1030 M8U
1090 KeyControl49
10A0 KeyControl25

If I search EGO Systems, Inc. without quotes in Google, the first result
is www.ego-systems.com and second www.esi-audio.com!

All devices listed in the usb.ids file as EGO Systems vendor are products
that you can find on the ESI website, in the section product or product
archive (http://www.esi-audio.com/products/archive /).

In my case, my sound card appears as:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 2573: 0008

It is possible to rename the USB ID to be identified as 0a92:0091 and
test if it works properly?

Thanks!

Hi Clement, thanks for your time.

The lsusb -v output is too long for this list and is rejected with a
message: Message body is too big: 80770 bytes with a limit of 60 KB.

So, I discard parts as optical mouse, Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub and
Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub to make a little short message.
If you need a complete lsusb -v output, I post it in pastebin:

Here is my lsusb -v output (only MAYA section):

 Bus 001 Device 004: ID 2573:0008

Re: [Alsa-user] Could Alsa cause a hard crash?

This wasn't it at all

Update 2015-05-14

It was still crashing but less with the moving to pulse audio.
Because I never had problems before adding my new disk I decided to
figure out what all changed
I added a disk designed for video recording. (smart tools say it is
working good) (doubt this is causing anything but it could be a faulty
disk that isn't reporting)
I changed the case. I got a Cooler Master HAF XB EVO for easier access
to my disks. (highly doubt this is causing anything)
I had to re-install from a failed attempt to re-size partitions and
raid it. (smart shows these disks to be OK) These two disks I had been
using all along with no issues.
It is now a raided system. (raiding might be I don't know)
My desktop changed from XFCE4 to Gnome 3.14. (Suspecting this)
I had always used x11vnc and mythtv frontend and never had the issue
before adding my new disk.

Today I tried installing XFCE4 and had no problems so far under XFCE4
with it. One good night doesn't prove anything but I think I might be
onto something. I fast forwarded ad rewound a lot.
Something about Gnome 3.14 and MythTV Frontend I think are causing my
system to crash.

Alsa has nothing to do with my problem at all.

I was not able to crash it from the command line.
Thank you all for giving me ways to test all this.

No messages are displayed. It is what ever image was on screen as it
crashes. I try to ssh in with no luck. Mouse and keyboard do nothing.
I restart and I don't see anything in the logs about what happened.

program fighting over the sound card. So I changed Mythtv's output to
use pulseaudio in the hopes that it would work with pulseaudio instead
of fighting it. This seems to have helped. I have not had a crash
since. But the underlying problem worries me. Should fighting for
sound card resources crash the computer?

No. The crashes are either a hardware problem, or a bug in one of the
 drivers used.

What exactly do you mean with hard crashing?

[Alsa-user] USB Audio Input Controls / Level - Functionality Improvement

2015-05-14 Thread Chapman
Hi,

I am using the ALSA snd_usb_audio kernel driver with my Native Instruments
Komplete Audio 6.

All Audio input levels are low and cannot be seperated from within
pulseaudio, which are all mapped into one. No ALSA mixer controls exist for
the input channels.

This is in relation to the previous poster.

I have a studio microphone on my desk to use with my experimental microwave
radio card. I also would like to do some ELF monitoring this summer to
listen for lightning whistlers and other interesting natural emissions. I
would also like to have another input channel record my garden in the
ultrasonic range, for bird, bat, cricket, and mouse sounds.

This is not possible at this time because of these issues. Any help with the
driver would be excellent.

Thanks,
Chapman
