Is there an easy way to get the number of in/out channel that the
 device/the alsa-driver provides ?

Look into /proc/asound/card?/stream0.

And if there are more than 2/2 channels, how do I activate these
 extra channels ?

Nothing special. Try the --channels parameter of speaker-test.

2012-10-08 Thread Florian Hanisch
Hi,

thanks a lot! The /proc/asound/card?/stream0 indeed shows that there
are 8/8 channels available. I was moreover able to fix my problem with
JACK (just had to disable the D-BUS interface). Choosing the fireface
as input and output device together with the alsa driver, JACK boots
without any problems and 8/8 channels are available. I tested the 8
output channels using SuperCollider through JACK, they seem to work
fine. Great!

I did not check the input channels and latency so far.

Best,

Florian

[Alsa-user] Number of i/o-channels for a usb-class-compliant device

2012-10-07 Thread Florian Hanisch
Hi list,

I have an alsa-newbie-question:

I am running an RME Fireface UCX in the usb-2.0-audio class-compliant
mode. I can get stereo-sound but alsamixer is not working.

Is there an easy way to get the number of in/out channel that the
device/the alsa-driver provides ? And if there are more than 2/2
channels, how do I activate these extra channels ? There should be 8/8
channels available in usb-class-compliance mode, these are displayed
on a mac-osx without using the RME native driver.

Thanks a lot,

Florian
