Re: [Alsa-user] Microphone not recording properly on ALC883, Acer 3103WLMi
I no longer seem to have any issues, or if they are present, they're very intermittent on my system. I'd say that for my specific laptop the issue is resolved simply with the options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire line; I don't need to do any reloading anymore. Debian testing just had some new Alsa packages come in and maybe that might be helping things for me; I don't know, but I have no further complaints: things work great. Thanks for the feedback guys. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Re: [Alsa-user] Microphone not recording properly on ALC883, Acer 3103WLMi
Okay, I'm holding off on reporting a bug because maybe things are more complex than I originally thought. As I said, Debian's pulled a few new alsa packages into their testing distro, which is what I use. And since those packages were pulled in, my problems have largely disappeared. Actually, I tried to remove the model=acer-aspire option and rebooted my machine several times, and most times the recording just works now. So, I don't really see a smoking gun with this option anymore. That being said, I am having intermittent problems when after a bootup, I will try to record, and I can record one time successfully, and after that it'll stop recording properly until I reload the driver. Just reloading the driver will clear things up; model=acer-aspire isn't needed. Should I still post something to the devel list even though this is maybe not as definitive as I thought? - Paul Original Message Subject: Re: [Alsa-user] Microphone not recording properly on ALC883, Acer 3103WLMi From: Paul Goins [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sun, November 18, 2007 9:09 pm To: Lee Revell [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: alsa-user@lists.sourceforge.net Gotcha. This is what I did as a workaround, afterwards everything worked properly: * Stop alsa * Remove the snd_hda_intel module (you might need to close X to do this) * Modprobe the snd_hda_intel module with model=acer-aspire * Start alsa Why not just change the entry in /etc/modprobe.conf ( or in one of the files in /etc/modprobe.d if that is how your distro works. Eg alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire remove snd-hda-intel /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; /sbin/modprobe --first-time -r --ignore-remove snd-hda-intel install snd-hda-intel /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install snd-hda-intel { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; } I haven't fiddled around enough to get a proper fix as of yet. Lemme know if this workaround helps, and if I can get a more proper fix that works for me, I'll pass it along too. - Paul Goins - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
