Hi,
big question:
What dump do you use to backup that raw device?
linux-dump?
and this device is used by infomix as a raw data-device without an
ext2 filesystem on it?
yes?
You won't be able to restore something meaningfull from this dumps at all.
Linux dump is designed only for dumping ext2

For a changer device on LUN 1 you need to edit the Solaris's generic SCSI
driver /kernel/drv/sgen.conf. This works fine, did some tests with mtx.
I was just more wondering what are the criterias to choose between chg-scsi
or chg-zd-mtx...

I was thinking of putting a wrapper around amandad,

Hi Jerry,
what a about a very different idea?

have you ever tried the Logical Volume Manager?
- shut down the mysql before amanda is going to run
- issue a snapshot and restart your database
- mount that snapshot to a specific mountpoint

Hi Guys,
I am running amanda on a linux cluster. The backup reports no errors but
when I try to restore amanda tells me that the requested file is not on
the tape (It should be there since I can see it with the ls command

Is the tape rewound? (sounds stupid, but this has gotten me before...)

Someone else has suggested using mysqldump which is fine, though the dumped
files are much bigger than the databases and depending on your database,

Hi Jerry
I will add a database server to the disklist soon. We have mirror disks
and Solaris Disk Suit (SDS). This is aplicable also to linux raidtools.
I will:
- stop oracle; metaoffline a submirror and mount it read-only elsewhere
- start oracle
- Run amanda (over the off-lined submirror)

hi,
we use amanda extensively for backups, and are very pleased with it
