We have been experimenting with pigz (a parallel version of gzip which
exploits multiple cores) to try and reduce the amount of time taken
when backing up DLEs using software compression (gzip). We've had
encouraging results, with the backup taking roughly half the time.

Hello,
It's time for everyone to test the latest 2.5.2 snapshot before we
release 2.5.2p1.
Some bugs were found in amanda-2.5.2, most of them because of the new

A quick update. After generating about 15G of debug logs
(chatty! :-) ), the issue hasn't yet recurred. I'm going to continue
to beat on it to see if I can cause it to occur again. When and if
that happens I'll assemble debug logs covering the crash. Hopefully,
whatever was happening is
the latest 2.5.2 snapshot before we
release 2.5.2p1.

I have four machines being backed up to vdisks with about 500Gb total
being backed up with two clients active at the time of the crash. All
three are running builds of 2.5.2.

I compiled amanda-2.5.2-20070523 on our Solaris 10 SPARC amanda server. No
problems with the compile and install.
I did a test backup to several OS clients which are running amanda-2.5.1p1

-t is on the #! line, it must also be used on the command line at
./amstatus line 1.
If I removed the -t -T from the #! line amstatus worked ok.
What your perl version? `perl --version`

Can you try different ordering in perl argument on the first line?
Try: #!/opt/csw/bin/perl -t -T -w -W
