The SYNC-AM works EXTREMELY well on the Sony
ICF-2010 receiver!

I'm not sure Jim. I never open it up. It plays fair, but I would have
expected better from Collins. I have heard there are some modifications out
there to open it up (one involves a L-C network where the filters go). Maybe
I just have my expectations too high. It has been reworked by W3HM, but
Hey Mike, are you sure the filter is good? Sometimes they develop problems
after many years. Me thinks they had some sort of foam in them to help
prevent movement of the discs and it can deteriorate.

I'm curious, how well these filters would work in lieu of the Collins
filters? I have a 75A3 with just the 3.2 Kcs mechanical filter and it just
plain sucks. Maybe if it had something along the lines of a 5.5~6.0 Kcs
might make it a little more tolerable.

That is my impression Charlie. It is a very good SSB receiver with the
stock filters and such, but I prefer the tube receivers for AM.

Hi Jim (JO): I have an R-75 also but only the stock filters. My S-AM has
rarely shown (if any) improvement. If I use my imagination, on weak signals,
the S-AM seems to work a little bit. Otherwise, especially with good head-
phones, the R-75 audio has a lot of lows and enough highs. Works as go
I read someplace the icom 735 I had once had some sort of memory
inside that would go away when the backup battery went dead,
and you had to send it to the factory to be reprogrammed and the
battery replaced.
I got rid of it before it got old...
Not sure if that was true, but I don't doubt it.
Yo
Yes, the Kiwa filters are something like
5.5Kc at -6db, and 6 Kc at -60 db!

I have the KIWA filters in the homebrew, and for my
money, they work as good or better then a mechanical filter.
4.5 or 5.5 Kc is just that, outside the passband its gone!
I like AM qso's every 5 kc as long as the signals are clean,
if someone is distorted and splattering, nothing helps.

As far as my receiver goes, I have a 4.5 and a 5.5 kc filter
in it right now, and when things get nasty, I would rather not, thank you.
I can tune off to one side, the filters (KIWA) are like mechanical filters,
but sometimes its not worth it.
I had an icom 756 pro with the dual passband tuning, a
I had a NC 300 paired with my B&W 5100B for vintage SSB. As a matter of
fact, I use these every time I do SSB and really like them. How many people
can still zero a separate transmitter to a receiver and know they are on
frequency?
For me, the 117 out performs the 300 in two areas. First th
I stumbled on a good mechanical filter article that goes into upgrading the

Jim,
I lover your term, 'Aflak'! Pardon me, but I am going to use it..:-)
That Sx-117 is a pretty neat receiver. I was just looking at the
specifications at the following sight:

The IF selectivity at .5, 2.5 and 5 khz @ -6db is pretty tight for AM, and I

Sigh...
Nope, no Master Stancor Catalogue. Or at least I couldn't find it. It
must be buried under some debris. Sorry, Rick.

Jim I listened to the same groups as you yesterday on an SX 117. I did not
have any trouble copying each of the groups. While some of the aflack noise
could be heard, it did not affect my copy that much. I turned on the HRO 60
with the D coil in the General Coverage mode and was able to copy
Hi All,
Yesterday morning on 75 meters we had at least 3 AM QSO's going on
simultaniously. It was glorious! I heard QSO's on 3880, 85, and 90. At the
same time there were SSB groups on 3878, and 3894.
At my QTH (central Texas) with my equipment, my SP-600 was useless. Yes I

No doubt you are hearing myself and Ronnie, K5WLT. We meet most Sundays on
3970 to avoid all of the congestion in the AM window. We both run 807 rigs
with about 35 watts of carrier.

It's about 9:20 AM central time on Sunday morning as I write this. I'm
normally not around the rig at this time.
However, twice on Sundays when I have been here, I have found an AM qso on
3970.
The signals are too weak into my Mississippi qth for me to pick out specific
calls in order to deter
