I've been looking at this in a bit more detail and unfortunately it
looks like the ProxySetting app cannot be updated to allow apps like
market, youtube etc to work over a wifi proxy. I could be mistaken,
but I think the reason is that the browser checks for a configured
proxy in the
Http://androidcommunity.com/android-proxy-app-almost-allows-for-tethering-20081104

I'm not sure at the moment why it only works for the browser. I'm
investigating how to get it working using gmail and the market as I've
got the same problem in my office. I'll let you know when I have some

I've written an application which may help, it allows you to use the
browser from behind a proxy server on a WIFI network. Search for the
ProxySetting application on the market (its free).
At the moment Android only allows proxy information to be used when
you are connected to a GPRS/3G
Someone find any solution out for this? In my case, In the work, there
is a wifi signal trough the proxy.
