Re: [android-developers] Re: [Android LVL] Sporadic false negatives on client devices
Google hires the best of the best of the best, but they're only human too. I couldn't disagree more. I consider myself the best of the best when it comes to efficiency, common sense and business acumen, but they didn't hire me even after a long interview process. I am not trying to sound bitter, but that's simply not the skill set they are looking for, even though, when it comes to the Android Market, and generally running a business, a little bit of common sense would go further than the knowing the complexity of algorithm X. Honestly, I am not surprised that Google Play Store and the developer facing assets are in the shape they are in. Back to the LVL topic -- in my implementation, I allow a 30-day grace period where if the license check doesn't succeed, I let them use the app for 30 days without any warning or interruption. Of course, I have customer asking for refunds after the refund period expires and if I refund them, they can still use the app for 30 days. But hopefully, in those 30 days they realize that the app is valuable to them and they will repurchase. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Developers group. Re: [android-developers] Re: LVL suddently stopped working - returns only timeouts
You have to realize they have hundreds of thousands apps in Google Play, with probably many tens of thousands developers. It's impossible to support everyone effectively. But there should be an option for timely, paid support for those developers who are willing to pay for it, and such support should be extended to developers from whom Google has earned a significant revenue. What Google doesn't seem to realize, that for some developers, like me, selling apps is their livelihood. A screw up on somebody's part, mine or Google's, could literally have me find myself sleeping under a bridge, with no recourse. Since you are here, maybe you can answer this: What's with the fact that only Top Developers can reply to comments? What's the definition of a Top Developer and how does one become one? My app is in the top 10 in its category, so I would definitely consider myself a Top Developer, if I went by the definition of those words, but alas, I cannot reply to people's comments. By Google doing this, they are shouting out to developers that you are not important to us, and we are going to help your competing app by giving them to have the very important advantage of letting them replying to comments. You have to realize they have hundreds of thousands apps in Google Play, with probably many tens of thousands developers. It's impossible to support everyone effectively. Don't make excuses for them. I have around 300k users and my app is pretty complicated, but I can still support them effectively. Not everyone has problems all the time. As well as support for Play-Store-related issues being more than useless, queries to Checkout (or Wallet, whatever it's called these days) also results in no-response or no-info standard answers for the whole time I've had to use it. Re: [android-developers] openGL not removing all lines/points
Hi, I think you're rendering too many elements in your onDrawFrame -method. buffer.position(0); gl.glVertexPointer(2, GL10.GL_FLOAT, 0, buffer); gl.glDrawArrays(GL10.GL_POINTS, 0, counter); Here counter seems to be number of values within buffer while you should render only number of vertice elements. [android-developers] Starting ADB server failed (code -1)
Hi, I have been trying to update SDK via SDK Manager. And once it was finished the Log had following message: ... ... Updated ADB to support the USB devices declared in the SDK add-ons. Stopping ADB server succeeded. *Starting ADB server failed (code -1)*. Done. 3 packages installed. Done loading packages. This same message [2012-10-29 09:43:53 - SDK Manager] Starting ADB server failed (code -1). was displayed in the console window. Does anybody know what the *Starting ADB server failed (code -1)*. means. Thanks :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Developers group. [android-developers] Nexus 7 USB Host - Not able to enumerate device
Hi All, I recently bought a Nexus 7 for USB development. I would like to use the USB Host functionality provided by the new Android OS. I was following the USB Host Tutorial at the link: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/connectivity/usb/host.html. My program is very simple, and here are the relevant parts of the code: *private UsbManager manager; * * * *public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {* *super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);* *setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);* ** *Log.i(TAG, in onCreate());* *manager = (UsbManager) getSystemService(Context.USB_SERVICE);* *if(manager==null) {* *Log.i(TAG, USB Manager is NULL);* *}* *else {* *Log.i(TAG, USB Manager = + manager);* *}* *}* ** *public void enumerateUSBDevices() {* *HashMapString, UsbDevice deviceList = manager.getDeviceList();* *CollectionUsbDevice deviceCollection = deviceList.values();* *IteratorUsbDevice deviceIterator = deviceCollection.iterator();* *Log.i(TAG, Number of connected USB Devices = + deviceCollection.size());* *while(deviceIterator.hasNext()){* *UsbDevice device = deviceIterator.next();* *Log.i(TAG, device.getDeviceName());* *}* *}* When the enumerateUSBDevices function is called, it reports that the number of connected USB Devices = 0. I am using a USB OTG cable, and I know that the Nexus 7 is powering the connected USB Device because I plugged in a USB Mouse, and it works properly. I also plugged in another Android phone, and the Nexus 7 was confirmed to be powering the device. However, in both of these instances, the Android program says that there are no USB devices connected. I am unsure what is going wrong in my code. In my Android manifest, I have the following line: *uses-feature android:name=android.hardware.usb.host /* My manifest does not have any intent filters associated with any USB devices. My understanding based on reading the tutorials is that the intent filters need to be in the Manifest only if you want the APP to be notified when the USB device is connected after the App is running? Can anybody shed light into what I may be doing wrong? Do I need to root my device?
