[android-developers] Platform for Android App Developers to get user feedback for their unreleased apps

2016-09-09 Thread vimlesh gautam

We at UserExperior have built a platform for app developers, product
managers, UI-UX developers conduct quick user tests of their unreleased
apps. The user tests consists of a recorded video session of a user
interacting with your app and the audio feedback the user provides while
navigating through your app. Our platform *does not require any SDK
integration *for user test.

See here a sample user test www.userexperior.com/voonikusertest.html

Our platform consists of

   1. *Video Recording Technology:* Records complete user interactions on
   the app including gestures.
   2. *Beta Users:* We have real users on our panel across India who will
use your app and provide their feedback while navigating through the design.

We provide user test across all types of apps.

The reports will be shared to the developers via email where they can see
the issues customers faced on the app and also watch how users actually get
onboarded.

We provide of 5, 15, 25, 50 and 100 user base across India. Prices start at
INR 500/- per user per video.

[android-developers] Quick User Test before you launch your android app on play store

2016-06-02 Thread vimlesh gautam

If you are launching your apps without running a “User Test” then you are at a
big risk of your app not being used again. Always remember “YOU ARE NOT YOUR
USER”

I would like to introduce you to “UserExperior” a platform for conducting your
user test before you launch your app into the market.

We have smart phone users from across India, both technical and non-technical
users who will use your app and provide their feedback on its usability and
other features. BUT HOLD ON you can actually see how they have navigated in
your app. We provide the users audio-visual feedback in which you can see where
they have tapped on the app or performed other gestures, you can see how the
user has navigated through your app, where they have got stuck or confused or
experienced an error. In addition we also provide you with the users thoughts
which the user specks out loud while using your app.

This will help you to understand the challenges which your users would face
when they start navigating through your app and eliminate user on-boarding
struggles even before your apps launch.

You can select from 5 users to 50 users test at a time and will you will start
getting the feedback within a few hours of your test setup.

We are offering the 20 Android App developers with free tests for one of their
apps. So if you are interested send an email with your contact details to
cont...@userexperior.com

Please mention “USER TEST” in the subject line and our team will contact you
for setting up your tests.

Not really. You can *start* the uninstallation process via an
ACTION_UNINSTALL_PACKAGE Intent and startActivity(). However, the user
 has to confirm the removal.

[android-developers] keeping my service alive - how to achieve?

2009-06-08 Thread Gautam

Hi,

Though it is recommended to run the service as required and stop
after it is done, I'm planning to keep my service active always,
because
1) I want to listen to some system CP change and update my own DB. So,
need to register Content Observer and act appropriately. Plan to
register the observers after receiving boot completed.
2) if the service wants to maintain some cache that gets updated
periodically.

I started the service in onReceive() after receiving boot completed
and spwaned a worker thread (that is a looper and wait for messages to
process). I set setForeground(true) for the service. The service
process starts and the thread starts. But I could see from system log
that the process gets killed.

I don't want this to happen. What I want is that the process would
remain and next time when I start an activity or a receiver that
requires service, they should use the already created service.

Any suggestion how to keep the service alive ALWAYS.
btw, when I start the service from an activity and setForeground
(true), then i could see that the oom_adj parameter for the process is
getting set to 2, instead of 0 or 1.

Thanks.

[android-developers] Is Contact Content Provider threadsafe?

2009-06-02 Thread Gautam

I like to use platform Contacts Content Provider from 2 different
threads in my application. My application has one background thread
that runs as part of the service.

It may happen that an activity is accessing the contact CP and at the
same time an alarm expires that triggers my service thread to read
from contact CP.

Will it cause any problem? Do I need to guard the access with a lock
in the code?

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks.

[android-developers] Re: implementation of onDestroy for a service containing a worker or backround thread

I need to make sure, that onDestroy returns only after proper clean up
by the background thread.
Else (according to my understanding) OS may kill the process hosting
the service before proper cleanup.

[android-developers] Re: implementation of onDestroy for a service containing a worker or backround thread

2009-05-28 Thread Gautam

Thanks...
The plan is to start the service once (startService()) and never call
stopService. I want my service to be running always (will set
service.forground() = true).
When any activity wants to use the service it would get the service
via bind and invoke methods on the service.

Also, by looking at the documentation, it seems that the platforfm
does not provide power down broadcast intents.

So, onDestroy() on the service would never be called or used.
Is it a right assumption?

[android-developers] implementation of onDestroy for a service containing a worker or backround thread

2009-05-26 Thread Gautam

Hi,

I'm implementing a service that contains a thread to handle all
time consuming operation. My core service logic is in a different
thread than the ui or main thread. According to the Android document,
when the OS plans to free some system resource, it will call onDestroy
() on the service and only when onDestroy() returns it will kill the
process hosting the service, thus giving opportunity to the service to
cleanup.

Now, when onDestroy() is called, I want to send a message to my
service thread to do the necessary cleanup. Only when the service
thread acknowledges that the cleanup or shutdown is complete, onDestroy
() should return.
I could find a way to send asynchronous messages to threads and the
corresponding processing of the messages, but not able to figure out
how I need to implement onDestroy(), such that it would send a message
to the service thread and should wait for a result, before returning.

Appreciate if someone can comment on my understanding of onDestroy
() and provide some solution to the above problem.

Thanks and Regards,
Gautam.

But change the APN is the best practice I've tested.

 1. run emulator (either v1.1 or v1.5 OK)
 2. go to Settings - Wireless controls - Mobile networks - Access Point
 Names
 3. Choose any APN on list
 4. change the APN value as below

 - Name : Android
 - APN : Internet
 - Proxy : your proxy address
 - Port : your proxy port
 - Username : Not set
 - Password : Not set
 - MCC : 310
 - MNC : 260

 5. Save the APN and run browser

Plz try this way and let me know it works or not.

Please refer to the question and its reply at the OpenIntents forum.

Thanks for the reply Shailesh.

I tried the ACCESS_LOCATION_EXTRA_COMMANDS and your code of

1. What are the values that you get for this location? (I mean the

Thanks for your help,

  10-16 04:15:29.089: DEBUG/GpsLocationProvider(52): GpsEventThread
  starting

I checked using adb shell and there is no file /etc/gps.conf but
seems that the gps provider does get enabled.

I wrote an activity, where the main logic is:
  System.out.println(Providers found= + lmanager.getAllProviders());
  System.out.println(GPS Enabled= +
  lmanager.isProviderEnabled(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER));
  System.out.println(Last Known Location= +
  lmanager.getLastKnownLocation(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER));

and have given the permissions for ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and
  ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION in my manifest.xml

and here is the log when I run the code:
  10-16 04:22:33.316: DEBUG/LocationManagerService(52): getAllProviders
  10-16 04:22:33.327: INFO/System.out(230): Providers found=[gps]

  10-16 04:22:33.336: INFO/System.out(230): Last Known Location=null

So, I get gps provider and it is enabled, but the last known
  location I get is null.

I tried investigating further in the adb shell and got this:
  # cd /data/location/gps
  # ls
  nmea
  location
  properties

  # cat location
  gps,1193789209,37.42238666,-122.096535,0,0,0

I am not trying to set my location (the setters for which have been
removed from Android 1.0), but just trying to retrieve it from the GPS
provider, so here I am wondering:
  1. Why am I getting null as the location?
  2. Say, we were to solve that issue, then would Android read the
location from the /data/location/gps/nmea or /data/location/gps/
location file? and where are we specifying that? Is this all due to
  the missing /etc/gps.conf?

  Thanks,
  Gautam

Hi
I went through some forum entries for gps.conf and found this:

gps.conf error is not critical...this file is not needed for the mock
gps
feature on emulator. So you can ignore this error.
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_frm/thread/e6f79b90abf1e043/d978954036f60f7f?lnk=gstq=gps.conf#d978954036f60f7f

Does it work out of the box (i.e. providing your own mock location
provider) for anyone? If yes, then what are the co-ods that you get?

I am running this on Win XP Sp2.

 Thanks for the reply Shailesh.

I tried the ACCESS_LOCATION_EXTRA_COMMANDS and your code of
 lmanager.getLastKnownLocation(lmanager.getProviders(true).get(0))
but I'm still getting a null.

 1. What are the values that you get for this location? (I mean the
 coordinates)

 2. Do you get the error for /etc/gps.conf when you start the emulator?
(or you could check if you have /etc/gps.conf using the adb shell)

 Thanks for your help,
 Gautam

[android-developers] Re: Getting GPS Location in Android 1.0 SDK

2008-10-16 Thread Gautam

Thanks Ludwig for pointing me in the right direction :)

I've got it working now and this is how it works for me:

For getLastKnownLocation() to work, the best way is to telnet into the
emulator geo fix command or DDMS controls using Eclipse.
Without using one of these options above to set the location, the
method will return null.

A better way is to get the LocationAPISample and geo_sample_data from
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/files

The LocationSample registers a LocationListener so we keep getting
location updates instead of just one location value plus the .gpx file
can be used to set locations or simulate a path (cool!)

@Matthias
Let me know if my pointers help you or we can continue working to get
this working for you as well.

Thanks everyone,
Gautam

[android-developers] Getting GPS Location in Android 1.0 SDK

2008-10-15 Thread Gautam

Hi All,
I'm trying to get the location using the
LocationManager.getLastKnownLocation(gps) method and am getting
null. Here is the problem in more detail:

When I start the emulator, I get the following gps errors in LogCat:
10-16 04:15:29.006: ERROR/GpsLocationProvider(52): Could not open GPS
configuration file /etc/gps.conf
