Apple-Crop: Upcoming Wine Making Workshops for Fruit Growers

Mike Fargione Adding Value - Wine-Making and On Farm Winery Workshops We will be holding 2 days of workshops on wine-making and the basics of starting an on-farm winery. The April 20th session is on basic wine-making. The April 21st session will cover costs and procedures for setting up a winery, followed by demonstrations of laboratory techniques used to evaluate wines during production. Wine-making from grapes and other fruit like apples, pears and berries will be considered.These session will be geared to people with little or no wine-making experience, specifically commercial fruit growers who would like to consider making and selling wine from their fruit. This course is not for homeowners or hobbyists. Greetings, I wanted to make you aware of 2 upcoming Eastern New York educational opportunities for fruit enthusiasts: Hudson Valley Commercial Fruit Growers' School, February 15-18, 2011 The 2011 Hudson Valley Fruit School will be held next week at the Holiday Inn, 503 Washington Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401. This event is geared for commercial fruit growers and the meeting has been approved for NYSDEC pesticide re-certification credits. Walk-in registrations are welcome. The meeting is designed to target commercial growers of organic or conventional apples who are already knowledgeable of production techniques, but are interested in learning to expand or switch to organic production. The workshop will also provide useful training for crop consultants and extension personnel who's clientele are interested in organic techniques.
