Re: RRR|DefDiff new free tool published

2012-12-07 Thread Rod Harris
Excellent work Misi, I have been using it today it is very fast and very
useful. I like that it spits out a nice simple list of the objects that are
missing on each of the servers and the ones that are different, ignoring
all the non-functional differences.

Initially I tried comparing a deployable application on 2 servers but it
just came back and said the apps were different - 1 line. I really wanted
to see the differences in the contents. I reran the report with an object
def file with the app contents and this gave me the results I wanted.

I have one question on the output files. For me I only had a small number
of objects that were different yet the def file of objects that were
different was a much longer list. Why is this? Perhaps I don't understand
how the output files work.

Thanks again Misi,

Rod

The above command will produce a diff-list and and these set of def-files:
 - source-import-diffobj.def
 - source-import-newobj.def
 - target-backup-delete.def
 - target-backup-diffobj.def

Together with the RRR|ExportDef command, you have a fast way of comparing
two complete ITSM systems. They can be on different AR versions. Even
different databases and encodings will give you relevant output.

Hello Paul,

You are upgrading form AR 7.6.04 Sp2 to SP4. i.e. from one overlay aware
platform to the other one (next version).
In this case if you already have overlays created in your system. You should
not use BPCU.

Secondly, Do you have customizations on AR System Server forms? And do you
really want to preserve those customizations?
In upgrade process we recommend to ignore System forms from creating overlays.

Re: Change Template Oddity

2012-12-07 Thread Allen Morgan
Hi,

I believe the root issue is this Active Link:
CHG:CTU:WindowOpen_035_TypeSearch_TemplateFound

Basically, if you use the write-ahead capability to find your template it will
fire the above Active Link

If you are a member of multiple groups that have access to the Change template
the query used in the filter is not specific enough and will present you with
duplicate entries in your template list.

One of the entries matches your coordinator group in your change request and
each of the others is a different group.

If you select the one that is not the match to your coordinator group - you
will get the error.

The fix is to include the Support Group ID in the Active Link set-fields for
the table query

CHG:CTU:WindowOpen_035_TypeSearch is a good example beacuse it works correctly-
this one runs when you just click the Template button and do not use the
type-ahead function. It sets the External query correcly for the template table.

Updating CHG:CTU:WindowOpen_035_TypeSearch_TemplateFound
to use support group id will fix the issue.

Regards,
Allen

I am a huge fan of Misi's searchable ARS message catalog, much more
comprehensive than the BMC document.

http://rrr.se/cgi/arerrr?all=1 (pardon me if that's not the exact syntax or app

I looked up 4501 there and it came back with this:
A fatal error occurred within the approval engine. The details about that

fatal, and the approval engine is shutting down.

Hope that helps,

Hi Suresh,

I have encountered a similar issue in the past, which was related to filter
looping. You'll need to trap the error by enabling logging to be sure. The
fix at the time was to adjust the Max Filter attribute in the configuration
file after the diagnosis was done.

Hi,

I have just added a new tool to the RRR|Commands section that can compare
complete systems and create delta def-files and diff-lists for you.

Sample command: rrrDefDiff.exe source.def target.def

The above command will produce a diff-list and and these set of def-files:
- source-import-diffobj.def
- source-import-newobj.def
- target-backup-delete.def
- target-backup-diffobj.def

Together with the RRR|ExportDef command, you have a fast way of comparing two
complete ITSM systems. They can be on different AR versions. Even different
databases and encodings will give you relevant output.

RRR|DefDiff: https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrDefDiff
RRR|ExportDef: https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrExportDef

Enjoy!

Re: Stack limit error when creating job with DMT

2012-12-07 Thread Gary Dries
All
I was getting same error in my arerror.log that Victor reported.
while working with BMC support on some issue I had with the ar.cfg
files in a 7.6.04 server group installation I am supporting, BMC had
me change the Filter-Max-Total: in both ar.cfg files

from
Filter-Max-Total: 999
Filter-Max-Stack: 1
to
Filter-Max-Total: 50
Filter-Max-Stack: 1

I made this change last Tuesday the 4th and have not seen the error since.

Re: How to pull the ITSM application License Report

2012-12-07 Thread Easter, David
If you want historical information, you'd need to use the Historical License
Usage feature in the product - not the License Usage report...

https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars8000/Recording+data+in+the+license+usage+forms#Recordingdatainthelicenseusageforms-15127
https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars8000/AR+System+Historical+License+Usage+form

Remember to choose All when configuring it so that ITSM application licenses
are recorded as well as AR System user licenses.

There is also:

- BMC Availability and Performance Management:

The BPM product has a KM-Module specifically for AR System. The release notes
