Speaking of this. Why is it that sometimes the port is shown as

I would assume this is an issue of port forwarding too. Without having a
statically mapped port forward from your firewalls external to the *
internal IP, the port can shift. The answer I gave below should resolve
your problem as well.
Cheers

Just noticed something more interesting. I've added an ATP IAX account and
as expected it registers perfectly first time. But the strange thing is my
external IP address is 220.244.224.206 at the moment yet this is what and

Well, this is getting more interesting. I started looking at this this
morning and realised that Asterisk had lost registration, yet my ADSL
connection has been up

Tony,
Do you have port 4569 on your external firewall IP port-forwarded to your
internal IP on the * box?
You should create
Well I think the problems solved.
After finding that the registration was lost overnight and the ADSL
connection hadn't dropped (i.e. not to do with the Dynamic IP Address) I
investigated everything else. Seems that for some reason the port
forwarding on the firewall for port 4569 had been

IMHO, the Wiki information on IAX , especially IAX communication

Great!! Something to work with.
Yes, I've searched the wiki and everything else I can think of,
including these archives (which to be honest are very hard to search for
this sort of thing). I've probably spent about 8-10 hours

I'm imagining it has something to do with the fact that my home has a
dynamic IP address and it's changing when the connection drops out.
Of course it may also be nothing to do with it.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can give.
You're probably right in that your IP is changing. That's
to see what is setup.
Report back.
Thanks,
Wiley

What doesn't make sense about that is that if you are setup
like this...

There's no DSL router, just the Smoothwall (Linux) firewall. i.e.:

Then the issue of being dynamic will not matter to

What IAX service are you trying to connect to from your * box?
I've tried two with the same issue:
Iax.oztralia.com

They're Australian providers so you're probably not familiar with them.
So... Are you saying you have a DSL modem in a Smoothwall
